Guest guest
There is no greater sanity than ‘God Madness’. Such is this story that the Lord told me today and I upon receiving it rushed to share it with you.Upon the Niligri hills was a tiny village. Dev was the head of this village. Not only was he a good head of the village but the people called him ‘the heart of their lives’.Dev thought only for the welfare of all. He was always fair, equal minded and happy. And most of all he was God mad.But Dev’s life to the normal eye was full of troubles. It seemed like God would give him one test after another. His mother was bedridden for years…his wife died upon the birth of their son…and his only son was born blind…deaf and dumb. And that was not all. Recently in an accident with his tractor Dev had lost one of his legs. Yet no one could stop Dev from loving God…madly.Dev had a Guru that lived in silence in a cave. This Guru was always in meditation…he spoke to no one other than Dev. Dev frequently went to him and came back with even more vigor to serve…even a bigger smile and more devotion toward God.The villagers wept at the fate of Dev. They loved him deeply and wondered how he had no resentment toward God.On one festival when Dev was dancing before the village deity intoxicated with devotion one of his friends went to him and asked, “Dear brother, I love you and have intense respect for your love for God. But in the midst of this love and respect is mixed a little pity for the way God has treated you. Not only have you not spoken of your troubles, it seems you have never even seen them. And then you help others in trouble all the time. How do you do this?”Dev stared blankly at his friend. “What trouble?” he asked gently. “What help?” he again asked in confusion. “My Guru once told me that God is the indweller in the heart. He is always in bliss. Never disturb His bliss. Always keep your mind quiet. Make sure the senses see nothing that disturbs the equilibrium of your mind. Let your mind think only of God. Then the intellect has nothing to reason. Give up your name and form, for this indweller is the real you. To maintain His bliss is your sanity. That message of my Guru is my life. I only see that. I have yet not seen any trouble for I concentrate on not troubling my indweller. I have also not helped anyone for I in doing all have concentrated only on that bliss of the true Master within.” Saying that he closed his eyes and began to dance once again. His friend weeping ran to the Guru. He said to him, “O divine soul, how sweet is Dev…how sweet is your knowledge, please tell me how sweet is that indweller within me?” The Guru opened his eyes…he smiled. Bliss was shining on his face. He said, “Dev is free from troubles. The indweller has given Dev His eye of love and blinded him to the troubles of fate. And while Dev passes his life in this love the sweet indweller Himself endures the pains and suffering of his troubles and in that remains in bliss. That is the sweet indweller in you my dear brother and in all."What can I write after this but weep…I must return to that sweet love…and so must you!Part of the book: 'Inspiring Thoughts'By Seema M.
