By showing us sometimes that he is in pain we (his devotees) develop our empathy, sensitivity, and our devine feelings and energies. When these energies awaken within ourselves, we will be able to heal our surroundings and to transfer healing and love to Sri Swamiji on a subtle level. This is part of the ONENESS PRINCIPLE.
