Guest guest
Dear Sai Devotees, We continue with Sumathi Satakam............. --------------------- 13. O Sumati! Lizards live hundred years, snakes tens of hundreds of years, the crane stands on one-leg in the pond forever. Unlike these animals, human life should be focused on the 4 aspects: dharma, ardha, kaama, moksha (righteousness, prosperity, desire and liberation). The advice here is to live a full life helping oneself and others rather than animals that focus just on their survival. 14. O Sumati! Ill-chractered person would never acquire good habits just as bronze can never turn to gold no matter how long you boil it. The author believes that the natural tendencies in a person of bad character can never be changed, and as such it is best to stay away from such people. 15. O Sumati! Do not go near - a horse drinking water, nor an untamed, wild elephant, nor a bull flirting with a cow, nor an uneducated brute. Such an encounter will be harmful to you. The author describes situations where hunger, ego, lust and foolishness are involved. When you approach those situations, it is unlikely to produce useful results, in fact they could cause adverse reactions. 16. O Sumati! It is not a surprise if one helps a person who helped them previously; it is however a virtue if one helps a person that caused harm previously. Such a person is virtuous, and worldly smart. Mahatma Gandhi showed his second cheek when he was slapped on his face once. This in a way demonstrated Gandhi’s virtue. When people scolded or bad-mouthed Baba, Baba made sure to draw them closer and make them realize their mistakes…thus converting them into His followers, and helping them achieve this virtue. --------------------- OM SAI RAM!
