Guest guest
*JAYA GURU DATTA* *National Seminar on “Vedic Mathematics – Past, Present, & Future” on 20-21st March 2010 - A Report* After the successful conduction of a National Workshop on “ Tantric Mathematics” in the divine presence of H.H. Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Swamiji, a few days back I-SERVE in association with Siksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas, New Delhi, conducted a two day National Seminar on the above subject at Keshav Memorial Institute of Technology, Narayana guda, Hyderabad. Over two hundred delegates from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamilnadu, Kerala and New Delhi participated and deliberated extensively on the application aspects of Vedic Mathematics. “The inaugural session at 11.AM on 20th March was chaired by Sri Deenath Batarji of Siksha Sanskriti Uthan Nyas and the Key Note Address was delivered by Prof. K.V.Krishna Murty, Chairman, I-SERVE. Prof. Murty, in his address reviewed the relevance of Vedic sciences in general and contemporary relevance of Vedic mathematics in particular. He emphasized the point that Vedic Mathematics means all the mathematics that was inherited by us from the Vedas, post Vedic scientific literature, Tantra Sastra, Chandas Sastra, Puranas, Khagola Saastra etc and he enriched his speech by showing suitable examples for the presence of mathematics in the above mentioned sources. Later in the technical sessions, research papers of three categories were presented, viz., (i) papers which attempted to extend the principles of Sri Bharati Krishna Teertha’s formulas (ii) papers which tried for applying the same formulae to other branches like Engineering, computing etc., (iii) and papers which brought out the mathematical portions of other ancient sastras, like Chandas Saastra. In the last category, the paper presented by Dr. Rajendran of Kerala draw the full attention of the audience, since he very clearly proved that the so called most modern “Biennial System of Numbers” which is being used in the present day computers, was very much present in the “Chandas Saastra” of Pingala (3rd Century B.C) and he declared that he is going to bring out a full fledged research work on this subject very soon. Dr. Damodar Kulkarni, Dr. R.V.S.S Avadhanulu, Sri Ram Prasad Sri Ramu and others presented good papers on subjects related to the 2nd category mentioned above. Sri M. Seeta Rama Rao, who is an active member of both SSUN & I-SERVE and who is the Chief coordinator of this seminar presented a good paper on some aspects of his newly intended “Ganitaavadhanam” which he is going to publish in the form of a book very soon. On 21st March, the invited speech by Prof.V.Kannan, Pro Vice Chancellor, Central University of Hyderabad, was a great attraction. He depicted chronologically starting from 13th Century BC, to 15 century A.D. how the most crucial mathematical findings of Indian origin were later on declared as western findings. Some students also were encouraged by giving them a chance to speak briefly. In all, there were 5 technical sessions, in which 12 research papers were presented. All the paper presenters and session Chair persons were honored by Prof. K.V.Krishna Murty with a shawl and a set of I-SERVE publications. The Valedictory address was delivered by Prof. Ananta Vyawahare of Nagpur and the vote of thanks was proposed by Sri Gowtham Rao. The seminar concluded at 5 PM on 21st March 2010.
