Satguru Charitra Samgrahah slokas 63 to 71

 

Anantaram pitrsvasra, venkamambabhi dhyanaya

Svagramam prodduturvakhyam, prapito bala yogirat

 

Jivanmadhukari vrttya, vidyabhyasa paro bhavat

 

Hatha yoga prapuma sa, venkamba gudha sadhana

 

Balakessmin mahattejah, pasyantyajnata karana

Svavidya grahanayemam, varam patramamanyata

 

Kumaropi vinitoyam, nisthura vrata sangatah

Lambikayoga paryantam, vidyam yasyagrhitavan

 

Athscirena tasyam ca, prayatayam param padam

Balassapitr nirdesa, danantapura mayayaow

 

Sapatnyasya grhe taro, shitva kalam sa kancana

Tatao maisuru nagare, matamahagrham prati

Agamad balako yogi, svatarbodha prabodhitah

 

Tatastatra pravrtte ta, syopanaya mahotsave

Brahmopadesa velaya, magnikundatsamudgatah

Mantropadesam ganarat, tene ramya bhrdvapuh

 

Tato grherkamulesu, svayam jato ganadhipah

Svayam vatukamahuya, svangrahitumacodayat

 

Following this, the boy’s maternal aunt, Venkamma, took him to her village

Proddatur. There he lived on the alms and charity of benevolent people and

continued his education.

Venkamma, who was also practicing Hatha Yoga in secrecy and attained mastery,

found this boy to be possessing a mighty effulgence. But she did not know what

it was and decided that he was the fittest one to be taught her own knowledge of

Hatha Yoga.

The boy, too, with diligence and observing all the difficult injunctions, learnt

Hatha Yoga knowledge up to the Lambika Yoga.

When Venkamma too passed away, the boy went to Anantapur on his father’s

command.

There he stayed in his elder stepbrother’s house for some time and there after,

prompted by his conscience, went to his maternal grandparents house in Mysore.

The boy’s Upanayana Sanskara was performed there; at the time of the

‘Brahmopadesa(initiation into the Gayatri mantra), Lord Ganapathi came there in

his mighty form from out of the ritual fire and himself initiated the boy by

chanting the pious Gayatri Mantra in the boy’s ear.

Then Lord Ganapathi himself emerged out of the roots of the white Arka plant

that was in the backyard of the house, beckoned the newly initiated Brahmachari

and prompted him to take him(Ganapathi) along.
