Guest guest
Namaste Taj, The mantra for Maharishi Vashistha is : Om Suchirmarkair Brihaspatim Adhvareshu Namasyatah. This mantra means: "We pray to Brihaspati (the Lord of this Universe and the teacher of this Vedic Knowledge), whose wishes are inviolable, for good thoughts (that will lead to good speech and actions that cannot be violated as it will be the truth)." The mantra for Maharishi Vashistha should be recited 21 times. The variation of the Mahamrityunjaya mantra you've described is one of many versions. Sorry to have to say it doesn't sound quite right although it may suffice in minor cases. The most powerful version is: Om Hoom Joom Saha, Om Bhu Bhuva SwahaOm Tryambhakam Yajamahey, Sughandhim Pushti VadanamUrvaukameva Bhandanaan, Mrityor Muksheeya MamritatOm Swaha Bhuva, Bhu Om Saha, Joom Hoom Om........ Since you are reciting the mantra for another person, always state the person's name with a sentence before you begin. Usually 40 days for this particular mantra is the right number. If you wish to perform for longer, then try 45 or 90 days. Traditionally, its necessary to sit in the east direction for this mantra. But if its not possible, then sit in any direction. However even if you sit in the east with back to the altar in the puja room, its fine as the deities behind you will "back" you while the recitation is taking place. Bear in mind that you must feel completely comfortable with this suggestion before going ahead. If you don't feel comfortable, then select the best spot where you'll be. Your upaguru will guide you. Here are my questions:> > -It is said that before one chants the mantra one should recite the small prayer to Maharishi Vashistha for guidance and blessing - do you know what this mantra is?> -There are a few variations of this mantra of its beginning and end mantras. For example for the last two weeks I have been chanting as thus: Om Hoom, Om Joom, Om Sah, Om Bhur, Om Bhuva, Om Swaha, Om Trayambakam Yajamhe Sugandim Pushtivardanam Urvaukameva Bhandanaan Mrityormoksheya Maamritaat, Om Hoom, Om Joom, Om Sah, Om Bhur, Om Bhuva, Om Swaha. This was given to me by a local respected jyotishi. There are a few variations - is this one okay?> > -I am chanting this mantra on behalf of another person....how can i ensure the mantra benefits them and not me?> -I am doing this mantra for 40 days...is this the right number...currently I am chanting it 108 times every evening (so far done 13 days)> -Finally, i have read you need to sit and face east direction....is this necessary?....its just the way things are in my house/puja room makes it a little difficult> > I look forward to your reply on this and any suggestions you make I will take on board.> > Warmest,> > Tajinder>
