I agree. This is a powerful expression of sincere heartfelt feelings to

our dear Sadguru Deva which many of us have been fortunate to

experience. How can any language adequately express the divine bliss

which the heart and soul feel? The depth of your devotion comes through

and that is a source of inspiration for all of us.

Jaya Guru Datta.

All,

Here is a video by Jill Bolte Taylor on " My stroke of insight " . She has been

researching about the functions of brain. Please take a look at the video in

the link:

http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/jill_bolte_taylor_s_powerful_stroke_of_in

sight.html. It is very wonderful ( a little bit scary too) and how she

narrates it makes it more interesting.

To use scientific vernacular, a person saying that the " Self " is everywhere

is to say that the person is experiencing an elevated state of

consciousness. I think that one can reach this state by multiple ways,

though Jill Taylor had to have a tumor in her brain. But she is an evidence

for the scientific community that such states of consciousness are present,

though she could not control her experience because of the tumor.

Advaita Vedanta, preaching " Aham Brahmasmi " (I am Brahman) or " Tat tvam asi "

(That thou art), means to elevate us to the higher states of consciousness

of the supreme " I " . To reach that state, one has to follow a very

disciplined spiritual path as well as the guidance of a guru, who Himself

has been a follower of the traditional path. The tradition ensures that the

very teachings that have produced a guru now, will groom more such gurus out

of the disciples. Only if you have the grace of Isvara, you will even get

such a guru. Pujya Sri. Swamiji is such a traditional guru.

To me song Sri. Swamiji composed indicates three things at the least.

1) He felt His extension everywhere and in every being. However, the

closest verbalization of that state of " I " made Him say that Datta is

everywhere and in everything.

2) It also shows His devotion to Lord Datta. This is what every devotee

should feel about their Ishta DevatA (favorite deity), when their bhakti

(devotion) matures.

3) Bhakti and Jnana are one and the same for realized persons.

Note - There are no equivalent terms in English language to represent " I " ,

" Brahman " or " Atman " . However, using the term consciousness and elevated

states of consciousness makes someone understand the concept. If you are

learning Vedanta, the teacher would not be using those terms at all. The

Vedantic " I " cannot shrink, cannot expand and hence is not elevated to a new

level. There is only one level, which is " I " .

My 2 cents.

Sri Guru Datta.

Jaya Guru Datta

more from Hira:

Naa (my) Datta:

Someone expressed to me that these verses sounded rather frivolous: That is

far from the truth. Let me please explain.

The moment we wake up, our mouth smells. We see our Sadguru Datta, Sri

Swamiji at work untiringly, day in and day out, removing our vasanas, bad

smells, bad odors accumulated through many lifetimes. They manifest in this

present lifetime as our restless minds, our un-satisfiable hankerings after

this and that, our inexplicable likes and dislikes. Just like toothpaste,

and soap He is continuously cleansing us, scrubbing us, like a brush,

rinsing our sins away with pure water called Upadesa, God Words and the

tender touch of His fingers of sheer compassion.

Naa brusshu (brush) (the verb `is'is implied) Datta, naa pestu (paste) Datta

Naa pallu (teeth) Datta, Sri Datta

Ee (this) neellu (water) Datta, naa vellu (fingers) Datta

Naa sabbu (soap) Datta, Sri Datta

He preserves our life-force by teaching Kriya Yoga, so that in this

lifetime, we can make tremendous spiritual progress by practicing Pranayama,

remembering Him in every breath. By His daily example, He teaches us to

perform worship, and dedicate the fruits of the worship at His holy feet. He

delights us with the beauty that is inherent in Nature in the form of

flowers.

Naa Shwaasa (breath) Datta, naa pooja Datta

Ee poolu (flowers) Datta, Sri Datta

Naa gotra (lineage) Datta, nakshatra (birth star) Datta

Naa naama (name) Datta, Sri Datta

Sri Swamiji teaches that all Gods are one. Datta is all-encompassing. He is

the Big Mall where all tastes are catered to. Sri Swamiji's mantras and

bhajans are our kavacha, our protective armor against disaster, disease, and

negative influences.

Naa Rama Datta, naa Krishna Datta

Naa Hanuma Datta, Sri Datta

Sri Maata Datta, naa Ganapa Datta

Naa Soorya Datta, Sri Datta

Naa Subba (Subrahmanya) Datta, naa Naga Datta

Navagrahaa Datta, Sri Datta

Naa mantra Datta, naa bhajana Datta

Naa kavacha Datta, Sri Datta

Everything we need for our sustenance, He provides. Like the refrigerator He

satisfies our hunger and thirst.

Naa frijji (frig.) Datta, naa bujji (beloved) Datta

Swameeji Datta, Sri Datta

Ee paalu (milk) Datta, ee juicu (juice) Datta

Breakfastu (breakfast) Datta, Sri Datta

He transports us safely, not only in our travels in this world, but

throughout our spiritual journey, over innumerable lifetimes, where our

journey may span different unfamiliar spheres and planets even. Like a

cushion He ensures for us a smooth ride. Datta is the fruit that we have

been fortunate enough to obtain by our past meritorious deeds, and by His

sheer grace. Of course, He is also sweet and enticing like a delicious juicy

fruit. He is the best friend that one can possibly have.

Naa caru (car) Datta, naa ooru (town) Datta

Naa peru (name) Datta, Sri Datta

Naa dindu (cushion) Datta, naa pandu (fruit) Datta

Naa friendu (friend) Datta, Sri Datta

Sri Swamiji does not deprive us of our worldly joys and enjoyments, although

He is taking us on a spiritual path. He gives us the health to relish the

good things in life.

Naa ricu (rice) Datta, naa icu (ice) Datta,

Naa friesu (fries) Datta, Sri Datta

Naa webbu (web) Datta, naa dabbu (wealth) Datta

Naa healthu (health) Datta, Sri Datta

Sri Swamiji is all about communication, be it intimate conversations, via

dreams, heart-to-heart whispers, via websites, or direct telephone calls to

devotees. He has provided Datta ring tones that delight us with His names

and tunes. Unlike books, and scholarly lectures, to this disease called

attachment to the world, He is the one and only physician who can provide an

effective cure. Our relationship with Him is the dearest and closest to our

hearts ever, because His Love and personal involvement are enduring and

unchanging through eternity. He forever nurtures and protects His children

with the love of a Mother.

Naa phonu (phone) Datta, ring tonu (ring tone) Datta

Vidiponu (I won't leave you) Datta, Sri Datta

Naa mandu (cure) Datta, naa vindu (nourishment) Datta

Naa bandhu (closest one) Datta, Sri Datta.
