Guest guest
For those who are grounded in western/christian tradition, the following should be quite familiar. The words " in parens " are taken from various scriptures for comparison. Simply reading these and seeing their similarities is of limited use - one has to move beyond to pursue sadhana within the recesses of one's being, to truly understand. The Lord's Prayer: O Birther! Father- Mother of the Cosmos (Shiva-Shakthi, JaganNatha/JaganMata) Focus your light within us - make it useful. (Jnana Chakshush, Light of Third-Eye, Tat-Savithur of Gayathri Mantra) Create your reign of unity now (One-ness, Advaitam) through our fiery hearts and willing hands (Bhakthi Yoga - fiery hearts, Karma Yoga - willing hands) Help us love beyond our ideals (Param-Ananda, the bliss " beyond " ) and sprout acts of compassion for all creatures. (Yagna = act of compassion = sacrifice of " self " ) Animate the earth within us: we then (Om-Gam, i.e., Om-Bhur, ....Bhur-Bhuva-Suvaha) feel the Wisdom underneath supporting all. (Thy Holy Feet) Untangle the knots within (Brahma-Vishnu-Shiva Granthi) so that we can mend our hearts' simple ties to each other. Don't let surface things delude us, (Maya, surface illusory energy) But free us from what holds us back from our true purpose. (free of 'that which binds' = Bandha-vimochanam, " ee-andhakaramu tappimpava? " ) Out of you, the astonishing fire, (Jyothirlinga aka 'astonishing flame') Returning light and sound to the cosmos. (removing sense of possessiveness or " I " , letting that which is of nature be nature's alone) ....Amen. (AUM) As Sri Swamiji says: " The basic ingredient of all religions and faiths is one and the same. It is experiencing the existence of God through the realisation of the Divinity of Man. ...While everything in this world is transitory the soul (Atman) in Man is alone permanent. Atman is but the spark of Paramatman, the Lord God. Man's efforts should be to make the Atman merge into the Paramatman. That is the highest concept of Advaita. ...The inner light is shining constantly. It reveals itself through the mirror called the mind. The defects in the mind blur the light within. But actually that light remains ever unaffected by the modifications of the mind. Man should ignore the limitations of the mind and should get fixed in the inner light. The inner light is God. To Seek Him should be the aim of man. " For those who give up in frustration, it should be remembered always that: " Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? " [Matthew 7:7] Know *with certainty* that: " Ye Have Not, because Ye Ask Not. " [John 16:22] Because: " If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. " [James 1:5] The assurance given by the SatGuru is this: " Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears *My voice* and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. " [Revelation 3:20] ...This is the meaning of requesting Him to come for " Bhiksha. " (requesting Him to come for partaking of food offered with inner purity) Jaya Guru Datta! Jaya Guru Datta!
