Namaskar,

Absolutly agree with Anil. i was about to write the same thing.

Both Siva and Vishnu are equal (There is story in Shiv Purana when

there was a fight between Vishnu and Brahma about who is great among

both then Shiva arrived and created Jyoti in between them after that

Vishnu accpeted that Brahma is great gracefully so Shiva offered

Vishnu equal importance to him.) Siva created vishnu from his left

vaksha (chest) and vishnu created brahma from his nabhi lotus.

Since Siva and Vishnu are equal we should worship both of them

equally. One who fights for Vishnu is great or Siva is great are the

most stupid people wasting their time in unnecesary thing instead of

worshipping them.

And yes whenever Vishnu took avatar he worshipped Siva *(Rama

worship Siva Rameshwar is temple, krishna as Gopaleshwar - which is

Siva.) when siva took avatar he worshiped Vishnu (Hanuman was

devotee of Rama, Sankacharya written vishnu sahasranama.) Also most

of the time they took avatar at the same time to protect each other

and to establish the vedanta dharma like Hanuman to protect Rama ,

Padmapada(avatar of vishnu) to protect Sankaracharya.

Sankaracharya proposed the Panchayatan pooja with any one of your

eshta devata and other four gods will help you in completing the

pooja (they will remove the obstacles).

recent example is Sant Narhari who was devotee of Siva and never

wanted to worship or even see other god but he saw Siva in vittal

mandir at Pandharpur.

Puranas are full of vishnu praising shiva (In Shiv puran) and Shiva

praising Vishnu (Srimadbhagvat) this is just to increase faith in

your eshta devata.

So both are equal and never fight for who is great and waste your

time even though you are vaishnava or Shaiva.

Namaste Gajendravispute,

I feel its the Rudraksha that we wear with respect or

have with us that has probably opened our thought

process to understand the intricacies of ideal Bhakti

and the co-relation between the many Gods of Sanatana

Dharma and of course other religions.

I too had this confusion raging in my mind for quite

sometime as to who is superior among all the Gods

(especially Vishnu & Shiva as they are the most

dynamic of the Trinity)and must say as Narasimhayeji

wrote to me in a previous message, that we get

signposts to make us understand in a sutle way, I

realized after some time that they are one and the

same but different expressions of the Ultimate Reality

materialized to fulfill different tasks of this

existence.

Aum Namah Shivaya
