Guest guest
Jaya Guru Datta, On another list for labyrinth facilitators to which I belong, a discussion has been going on about the Green man at Chartres Cathedral in France where there is a famous labyrinth. The discussion has turned to the fact that the green man has three heads believed to be looking to the past, present and future. In past readings, I have discovered connections between Shiva and the Green Man because of his connection to the forest, but never between Datta and the Green Man. Does anyone have any ideas about an ancient connection between Datta and the Green Man? See the photo below if it sends. If not, here's the link... http://www.flickr.com/photos/84265607@N00/2265901725
Guest guest
Jaya Guru Datta. In Datta Retreat Center (DRC) in Pennsylvania, there is a small picture of a man with 3 heads sitting on a chair and also wearing the cross. When I enquired the caretaker of DRC about the picture, she told me that it was found in a church in Europe, and Sri. Swamiji confirmed long back that it was Datta's picture. Going back in history from Sri. Guru Charitram (history of Datta's incarnations in this kali yuga), Lord's Datta's incarnation of Swami. Narasimha Sarasvati ended the incarnation by walking into the forest in Sri Sailam in Andhra Pradesh (approximately 1550 AD). After that no one saw Him as Sri. Narasimha Sarasvati. However, after 300 years there appeared another saint Akkalkot Maharaj (Sri.Swami Samarth) as an old man, whose prior history was not known at all. There was a gap of 300 years (1550 AD- 1850AD) approximately. The book Sri. Guru Leelamrth (story of Akkalkot maharaj) confirms that He was none other than Sri. Narasimha sarasvati indicating that He was doing penance in the Himalayas. In this time of 300 years, it is believed that Sri.Narasimha Sarasvati travelled all over the world and preached different religions based on the geography and spirituality of the seekers. It is His picture that we are supposed to be seeing in France as well as Datta Retreat Center. This is from what I heard from different sources. Guest guest
Jaya Guru Datta, Thanks, Ravi, I remember that picture at DRC well, it's a Russian icon with three heads and I remember Sri Swamiji saying it was Datta. I first read of the connection between the Green Man and Shiva years ago in the book Iron John. But found this link about the Green Man in India today. http://www.mikeharding.co.uk/greenman/green6.html I wonder what those in India would call the images in these pictures of the Green Man from Indian Temples? Any ideas? Thanks for the connection to Narshimha....In the image in the link above from India, He almost has a lion face.... - Ravi Venkatraman 'ShivaShakti' ; jaigurudatta Tuesday, December 08, 2009 1:35 PM RE: Green Man and Datta?
