Dear Datta Pariwar,

Jai Guru Datta

Re: About the Raksha

mantra

In 1995 after 2 years of chanting the Raksha mantra ( at

that time it was known as the Jana samrakahana mantra for World Peace

). Sri Swamiji tells us on his arrival in Trinidad about how he visited

the Lake Manasa Sarova after 50 years. This journey took him along the

arduous Eastern face of the mountain instead of the usual Southern face.

His first visit was at the age of 11, and at that time he circumbulated

this sacred lake 3 times.

Here in his speech Sri Swamiji gives us various clues as to the

importance of this mantra and effects of the sacred lake.

……'The trip was supposed to last about thirty or thirty-five days.

We reached within forty days. It was extremely difficult and we had some

serious health problems. The guides and interpreter did not know when we

would reach. There were about ten devotees with Swamiji. We travelled

about eighteen hours every day almost in total silence, beautiful

silence, repeating mantra.'

…… " Swamiji was chattering, and shivering, and

chanting for 15km. It was a very beautiful experience. Swamiji wants to

see the small Manasa Sarovar, the small Mt. Kailash, the eastern face of

Lord Shiva. It's an angels' place. After two days, we reach the

Chinese side. We sleep. It was very cold. They say that you can die in

the night or tomorrow. But Swamiji thinks, " Alright, it's

alright, because we want to chant " Om Aim Hreem Shreem Shiva Rama

Anagha Dattaya Namaha. " We have to carry this water to Trinidad. I

must take bath and carry water to Trinidad.

In another speech he said; …..Because of your body, you have fear of

death. Those who are self-conscious are scared of being humble. The good

fear evil persons. For young and beautiful persons there is the fear of

old age and senility. We have so many fears. So always chant this

mantra, mentally asking protection because there is always fear. So no

peace.

Then Prasadi relates his experience…… " On emerging from the

water I found that all my thoughts had gone. I asked Swamiji later,

after that blissful state whether mentally and physically nothing

exists, " What has happened to my thoughts? " He answered,

" It is for this reason only that you came. "

This is the mantra Swamiji chanted all the way from the Himalayas to

Trinidad.

When the Raksha Mantra given by Swamiji is chanted incessantly the mind

turns inward and becomes subtle so one can attain `yoga'

(unification with God). This year the world is undergoing a spiritual

transformation and we all have to deal with internal and external

changes. Sri Swamiji says that this Mantra gives you strength, courage

and frees you from your worries. It keeps you worry free! It is

`worry proof' because it helps to get rid of thoughts.

" The mind is not like a monkey; There isn't anything like it,

None equal to it; it is the source of everything. Sachchidananda, Lord

of true bliss eternal. " Jai Hanumanta! -Sri Swamiji
