Guest guest
Loving SAI RAMs, Scriptures declare that the notion of 'jivahood' or finitude is in itself a bondage. Libeartion is,therefore the removal of this ignorance-born notion. The Self is ever-liberated. It is beyond the delusory thoughts of bondage and liberation. The bondage that was previously experienced was a mere feeling and not real. This feeling of 'bondage' and 'liberation' exists only in the mind and not in the Self. Man attains Supreme Happiness on Self-Realization. The Mundaka Upanishad says, " Truth, penance, true understanding and purity of life are essential requisites for the revelation of the spirit within. When thus revealed,, He shines spotless and resplendent within oneself. The seekers who have freed themselves from sin are vouchsafed the vision(of Atma). (Satyena labhyastapasa hi esha Atma satyagnanena Brahmacharyena nityam Antah sareere Jyotirmayo hi subro yam pasyati yatayah kshinodoshah). Scriptures also declare that Atma is all Knowledge and it destroys the darkness of ignorance. It pervades and sustains all and shines and causes everything to shine. For the purpose of walking the path of spiritual development successfully, we have to prepare both our' head and heart'. We have to pursue intellectually the knowledge of Truth and maintain a feeling of devotion for the Lord. With a proper combination of devotion and discrimination ,we evolve to a higher spiritual level. When we pursue this way earnestly, the Self unfolds itself. The word 'heart' (Hridaya) above does not mean the blood-pumping biological organ. In Vedanta, heart refers to noble and divine emotions that rise in our bosom. When we entertain such feelings within and study, reflect and meditate upon the Truth the Supreme Self reveals Itself. This is compareable to the sun rising on its own accord on the horizon. In the early dawn, even before the sun rises on the horizon, the rays of the distant sun destroys the darkness. Darkness refers to ignorance of the Self in Spirituality. As we pursue our spiritual path, the Self is gradually revealed. To the extent, the Self is revealed, our ignorance(vasanas) get eliminated. When the Self is thus fully unfolded our entire vasanas get annihilated. (to be continued) G.Balasubramanian
