Namaste Nikhil, yes a lot of people use mustard oil for maintaining

rudraksha beads but these are folks who are used to the heat of the

oil and whose skin types are not allergic to it.

However for many others with sensitive skin and breathing

sensitivities, they are unable to tolerate the use of mustard oil. On

sensitive skin, mustard oil can cause rashes or hives, etc. When it

comes to smelling mustard oil, some people simply can't stand the

aroma just like they can't stand a sniff of chili oil or fresh

chillis.

Although its mentioned in the Purana (I think its Shiv Purana) that

mustard oil should be used, in modern times it does not not literally

have to apply to those who are allergic to it. If you see Shiva as

One in All and All in One, then all oils represent Him as He is the

Whole Universe and everything under the Cosmos.

I know of many people who are truly allergic to mustard oil. Some of

them tried diluting a couple of drops of mustard oil with

aromatherapy carrier oils such as almond, jojoba, etc. Others simply

change to til oil (sesame) and experiment until they find an oil that

suits them best.

As sandalwood oil is highly conducive to meditation, I often

recommend its use. Some drops of essential oil of sandalwood can be

mixed with cold-pressed almond oil for maintaining rudraksha beads.

There is also a wonderful Mysore Sandalwood oil from Rudra Centre

that I suggest people to try out too. I use this particular one and

dilute it with cold-pressed almond oil. It does not cause skin

allergy and the fragrance is ideal for attaining peace and calm.

Shall try to find the picture and details to show you in the next

message.

Aum Namah Shivaya
