Guest guest
Dear Sai Devotees, We continue with Sumathi Satakam............. --------------------- 2. O Sumati! The relative that does not help you in times of need, the divinity that doesn’t respond to your prayers, and the horse that stalls in battlefield – you must give up at once. Relatives cling to you in good times, but how many extend their help when you need it? We should learn the art of good judgment in all situations. We should know when to move away from a situation – be it in family matters, spiritual matters or business affairs. 3. O Sumati! Rather than serving a haughty (egotistic) master who doesn’t pay for your services in a timely fashion, it is better to lead life as farmer growing crops with a pair of strong bullocks and a till. If working for somebody gets to be very difficult and proves untenable, it is better to start your own venture, your own business to make a living. 4. O Sumati! Don’t serve in your job with greed, don’t oversee temple affairs, don’t do friendship with bad folk, and don’t go into forest alone. Greed always backfires; positions of responsibility always get you blame and blemish; bad friends put you on a road to ruin; and adventures require fellow companions to provide assistance as needed. 5. O Sumati! A person who doesn’t speak clearly, doesn’t speak good words, keeps silent with ego of authority/superiority is deaf, is blind and is as good as dead. Stay away from such persons. This poem is a bit harsh in its message; however, the underlying advice of staying away from such folks is valid. We come across folks that behave as if they are above others, that they can make decisions for others, or that they are the only ones doing great work… all of them are worthy of avoidance. --------------------- OM SAI RAM!
