With the blessings of his holiness Sri Sri Sri Ganapathi Sachidananda

Swamiji and Sri Datta Vijayananda Teeertha Swamiji, we the team members

under the leadership of SDHS Trustee, Mr. Rami Reddy of Guntur, with the

co-ordination of Sri M.S.R.K. Murthy uncle, the executive trustee of Datta

Gnana Bodha Sabha, Vishakhapatnam, and the volunteers of Vishakhapatnam were

able to successfully conduct Anagha Vratam in 4 places on the 27th and

28thFebruary 2010

*at Vishakhapatnam*. Three of these programmes were unique in their nature

and seem to have been conducted for the first time in the history of

Avadhoota Datta Peetham.

*1. **Anagha Vratam in the Juviline home (Home for the child

prisoners):*

On the 27th morning, we conducted Anagha Vratam in the Juviline home (Home

for the child prisoners). There are about 80 boys right from 8 years to 17

years. It was heart moving sight, to see their pitiable condition. It seems

some children are sent here for very small mistakes. Some others are not

culprits but are framed instead of others and their parents are given some

compensation for sending them to this home. Even though it is a Government

rehabilitation centre they are very much in need of love and affection,

which is required for their transformation. Many children are very sharp

and intelligent. During the pooja, many were caught in their emotion and

started crying for their parents and loved ones. At the end of the pooja

when I told them that they can now ask Anagha Swami and Anagha Devi for

whatever they want, everyone prayed for only one thing. “Please take us away

from this place as soon as possible to our homes”.

After 15 minutes of the completion of the pooja, we were surrounded by the

children asking us when we will come again. All of us were very deeply moved

and felt that Sri Appaji had reached out to the children so quickly, that

they felt very happy after the vratam and were wanting it again and again.

We had also taken Appaji’s Padukas to them and they were very happy to touch

them. They wanted to know a lot about Sri Swamiji. This was a new experience

to us and it made us sad to see so much unhappiness around us. We are

grateful to Shri Swamiji for giving us this opportunity to be able to become

Shri Swamiji’s instruments and convey His love to them. We understand, this

was the first time in the history of Avadhoota Datta Peetham that such a

programme was conducted for child prisoners.

*2. **Anagha Vratam in the rehabilitation home for the girls:*

*On 27th evening*, we went to the rehabilitation home for the girls. These

girls are the ones who are found in the trains, bus-stand and all the public

places. Some are rag-pickers; some are beggars in the trains and have

travelled even up to Delhi. These girls from 7 to 19 years are picked up by

the police and produced before the magistrate. They are then sent to these

homes. They are sort of aggressive in their behavior and it seems some girls

after being sent home, have returned to their old profession once again, and

are again brought back here twice or thrice till now. If these girls had not

been put in this home, God alone knows where their life would end. However,

they refuse to accept this and the matrons and people in charge are forced

to keep constant watch over them to see that they do not escape. Some

children have parents but their parents refuse to take them home unable to

bear them. Many are orphans and have no one in this world. They have a lot

of hidden talent and some are very bright children. Unfortunately, here also

the need for love and affection and proper counseling is missing. These

children also were very enthusiastic during the pooja and we could feel Sri

Swamiji’s presence during the pooja. I kept repeating to them that from this

day they are not orphans and they have got a father and mother and Guru in

the form of Appaji. While they are given food, clothes and shelter, what

seems to be missing is the need for proper vocational training. It is really

difficult to control these idle brains. We understand, this was also the

first time in the history of Avadhoota Datta Peetham that Anagha Vratam was

conducted for such street orphans who are kept in the rehabilitation home

for the girls.

*3. **Anagha Vratam in the Govt. Blind School for the girls:*

*On 28th morning*, Anagha Vratam was arranged in the Govt. Blind School for

the girls. Here also it is the same pitiable story. Many are orphans, some

have a single parent, and some have both but are forsaken by their parents

because of poverty and other difficulties. There are about 80 girls right

from 6 years to 20 years. Being visually handicapped and deprived of love

and affection, they are a troublesome lot. Many of them know Brailey and are

quite intelligent and bright. Many sing very well. These children performed

Anagha Vratam on the *BRAILEY ANAGHA YANTRAM CHARTS *prepared by Smt.

Yadeshwari of Mahaboobnagar. The children participated very well and when I

made them to chant the Raksha Mantra given by Sri Swamiji, they picked it up

very fast and repeated it on their own within no time. The amazing part is

the children here belong to Hindu, Muslim and Christian religions. The

principal of the organization is a Christian. So, it was really a

challenging task to organize our Appaji’s programme in such an atmosphere. As

per one of the pravachans of by Sri Swamiji at Vijayawada, we told the

children that in Anagha Vratam it is the worship of 10 different energies

and not a religion as such. They liked this concept and all participated

very whole heartedly. After the pooja many asked us to come again and again.

We do not know what magic hand Sri Swamiji had waved at them., Here also,

Guru Padukas were taken to each one of them.

*4. **Anagha Vratam at the Govt. school for deaf & dumb and physically

handicapped orphan boys:*

*On 28th evening*, the pooja was arranged at the Govt. school for deaf &

dumb and physically handicapped orphan boys. There were about 80 of them

from 7 years to 18 years. The most pitiable thing was that while everyone

was deaf and dumb, many of them were also physically handicapped. Many of

them had either only one hand or one leg. Some did not have both hands. Yet

they were all very cheerful and were very much interested in doing the

pooja. For me, it was the first time to conduct Anagha Vratam for such a

large number of deaf and dumb children. At the first instance, I became a

little nervous as to how to proceed. However Sri Appaji is always there to

guide us in the need of distress. I then asked each volunteer to supervise

about 3 boys. They could read and write. With the help of a little sign

language, and by standing at an elevated place (small stool) so that

everyone could see me properly and observe my actions, I would repeat each

word very slowly for 3 times. The volunteers too would repeat the same after

me and thus proceeded with the vratam. For the Ashtottaram of Anagha Swami

they repeated *ANAGHA* and for Anagha Devi’s ashtottaram they repeated *AMMA

* *. * It was really very very heart melting to see their condition. We

understand, this type of Anagha vratam programme, conducted for such deaf

and dumb orphan boys, was for the first time in the history of Avadhoota

Datta Peetham.

On behalf of Avdhoota Datta Peetham, we gave each of these 4 organizations a

healing C.D. of Sri Appaji and asked them to play it every day. We do not

know what effect the vratam had on all these children but these 4 programmes

have transformed us. Such unique and challenging programmes could be

successfully conducted only because of Sri Appaji’s blessings and the

initiative and undaunted hard work of Murthy uncle and his team. They went

to each of these institutions, two or three times to convince the heads of

these institutions. Since these are Govt run institutions, to have a pooja

at these institutions, is not an easy task. The SDHS volunteers of

Vishakhapatnam were very co-operative and worked very dedicatedly for 2

days.

We are very much moved by the conditions of all these different types of

children and we only know that whatever we have done is not equal even the

tip of the ice-berg. There is a lot to be done to them in the name of Sri

Appaji. Hence we request all those who are interested in helping such

children and even adults to join hands with us and let us together spread

love and affection and take them into the fold of Sri Appaji and give them

the enthusiasm to live and enjoy the protection what we are all enjoying. If

you come across any such institutions in your city or area please inform us

so that we will come there to perform Anagha Vratam and let that be the

beginning of a new chapter in their lives under the guidance of Sri Appaji.

I, K.V.R. Manjula , am the daughter of M. Vishwanatham, Auditor in Mysore

Ashram. My phone no. is 09963770088. We will be able to conduct Anaghavratam

in Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and English languages.

Once again, bowing at the lotus feet of his holiness Sri Sri Sri Ganapathy

Sachidananda Swamiji and Sri Datta Vijayananda Teertha Swamiji for giving us

this opportunity to serve the deprived in the society in Sri Appaji’s name and

thank him for giving us this transformation in our lives.
