Venkateshwara Temple in Datta Peetham

Perhaps the most ancient temple with any record of existence even during the

pre-Christ era is the venerable temple of Lord Venkateshwara at Tirumala. Early

Sangam literature dating back to B.C. refers this famous temple. So does the

Tamil classic Shilpadhikaram of around 3-4 century after Birth of Christ.

Measured by the attendance of pilgrims it has no parallel. Everyday Lord

Venkateshwara is worshipped from 2.30 a.m. till 2 a.m. next morning. The

frenzied invocation of ŒGovinda¹ not only pierces the air but also pushes upward

to the heaven itself.

The Venkateswara Temple at Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh

..is dedicated to Lord Vishnu as 'Venkateswara' (or Srinivasa) and attracts

followers from a wide range of Hindu traditions. According to the tradition this

temple has a self manifested idol of Vishnu and it is believed that Vishnu will

reside on earth for the entire kaliyugam on tirumala hills.

The story behind

1988: Manginapodi, A tiny beachside hamlet near Masulipatnam. His Holiness was

bathing in the sea along with a large group of devotees. Suddenly a black object

was lifted by His Holiness. It was a two feet high black granite statue of Lord

Venkateswara. Sri Swamiji then exclaimed ! Lord venkateswara is entereing Datta
