Guest guest
Dear Sai Devotees, By His inspiration, and as an instrument in His hand, I am beginning a new series called Sumathi Satakam. I sincerely hope that we all benefit from it. ------------------------- The word SUMATHI refers to one with ‘Su’ (good) ‘mathi’ (mind) or a person of good-behavior. ‘Satakam’ means 100 items. This set of 108 poems was written in colloquial Telugu and each poem conveys a very practical and useful point of view about moral/ethical behavior. The poems are believed to had been written in the 13th century by a royal prince – Bhadra Bhupala of Chola Dynasty. The poems follow the grammar of Telugu poetry and rhyme well when reading in Telugu. Although we can not capture the poetic beauty in English, a brief review of each poem’s meaning would hopefully prove to be thought-provoking and spiritually valuable as well. Spirituality does not yield full results unless it is accompanied by improved moral behavior. With that thought in mind, let us get started in reinforcing our moral compass… Let us start with the first poem: 1. O Sumathi! By the grace of Lord Rama, I now share with you simple moral aspects of human behavior in a fairly enjoyable, appetizing way such that the whole world will praise and appreciate these morals. Commentary: Rama sets the golden standard for human behavior, practising Truth and Honesty all his life at any cost. Perhaps that might be why the author invoked the grace of Lord Rama in the introductory poem. --------------------------- OM SAI RAM! Get easy, one-click access to your favorites. Make your homepage.
