Balasubrahmanyam (SPB) enthralled the audience at Nada Mantapa in Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Ashram here last evening with devotional songs. The occasion marked the 65th birthday celebrations of Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Swamiji. SPB captivated the gathering with Devi Virata Roopa, scripted and set to tune by the Swamiji in praise of Raja Rajeshwari. He was ably supported by his sister S.P. Shylaja. Her rendition of Poojisalende hoogale thande darushana kori na ninde with the chanting of Shivoham Shivoham in association with SPB filled the ambience with devotion. When SPB rendered Veturi Sunder Ramamurthy's Vedam nadam portraying Mathrudevobhava, Pithrudevobhava, Acharyadevobhava and Athithidevobhava which highlighted the Indian culture, there was a thunderous applause from the audience. Dasarapada, Dasana Maadiko Yenna Dasana Maadiko brought back the memories of late Dr. Rajkumar who had popularised the song. Dattadevatheya Charithe Kelu, composed by the Swamiji was rendered so well by SPB, the audience could not resist singing along. When SPB sang a song from the hit movie Shankarabharanam, the audience demanded 'once more' and he obliged. Music as language When the audience forced SPB to sing Kannada songs, he politely replied that music itself is a language and it should not be categorised. The rhythm and depth of music should be relished and language does not figure anywhere, he opined. Referring to the ambience of Nada Mantapa, SPB observed that the unique vibrations present there inspires anyone to sing soulfully. It was not just the money spent on the construction that mattered but the forethought and viability concepts of the Swamiji which is matchless, lauded SPB. Before the programme began, the Swamiji released an audio CD Bhajana Vybhava sung by SPB, scripted and set to tune by the Swamiji himself. SPB's popularity among Mysoreans was so immense that thousands of people had thronged the Ashram as a result of which, Mysore-Nanjangud Road was lined up with parked vehicles. Four huge TV screens had been erected for the benefit of the visitors. SPB, his wife Savithri, sister-in-law Kalyani and his sister Shylaja were felicitated by the Swamiji.
