Guest guest
Sairam Brother Good article. Good question. We need to understand first what and whom we are? I sleep, Dream and awake.. these are three states belong to the same body & mind..are these three not experienced by the same my self?.. if these three, by nature, which keeps changing, how one can experience the Un-changed one..that is the Real Self(god)?and basis for all.! Ok.. Straightaway, if I am sleeping, i dont know the experience of sleeping, during the sleep. I only come to know the next day morning once i wake up. Hence i dont know what happened during the sleep. where i was? But that sleep-bliss-experience cannot be matched/replaced with any other experience. Such a wonderful state. No possessions, No Ego, No fear..nothing.. But i enjoyed my sleep, without 'I' Knowing.Since i dont know (but 'I' existed) that i was sleeping, the ignorance Remain (They jokingly say.. Agjanam Brahma). The realisation is beyond all these three states. That is Atma, Self, Love, God, Jehova.(synonyms for the same thing) That Forever Blissfull State, Unchanged Bliss.. is God Realisation or Self Realisation.( hence Sage Ashtavakra said, that all the three states of Consciousness is unreal) How to go there? Paths of Yoga have been suggested according to the individuals Tendencies/behaviour/Competency levels. Easiest is Bhakthi to the personal god, complete surrender to him. He leads us, take us carefully to the Goal of Realisation of the Self. During the Journey lots of faith tests, vision of unseen comes ( our Swami is direct example for the devotess, as an Avatar descended to give this experience to the mass) If we keenly watch the actions of ours or witnessing continuously, (including the sleep.... who is sleeping?)(witnessing continuously is a sadhana again, through which Sage Ramana Maharishi attained realisation) Negating all the experience faced by the Individual, the Real Self shines forth. Cannot be attained by discussion or even by intellect, and only attained by 'Sacrificing the false-Self' (with Gurus Grace) Sairam, Love On 11 Apr 2007 14:47:36 -0700, Kartik Iyer <kartikiyer9 wrote: " " King Janaka used to gather many rishis in his palace and take delight in discussing with them about spiritual problems; he was a great adept at sadhana and he attained the highest stage of samadhi through Raja yoga. He dreamt that he was deprived of his kingdom, that he was roaming half-mad, hungry and deserted in the jungle, begging for food from whoever he met, that he came upon some men washing dishes and vessels after a feast which they had shared, that he ran towards them seeking some crumbs, that they gave him some little quantity of rice scraped from the vessels, that he was about to put it into his mouth when a big bird flew in and swooped it out of his grasp; so, he yelled in pain and grief, and the Queen heard it and she woke him up. Of course, when he woke, he knew he was the King. He remembered that a second previously, he was a beggar. He questioned within himself, which is real, this or that? To every one who inquired what the matter was, he put the same question. " Am I a king or a beggar? " The queen and others were frightened at this behaviour; they sent for the ministers and with them came, Ashtavakra, the preceptor. He discovered the situation as soon as he saw the King; so, to the question that the King put him, he answered, " Raja! This is unreal; that is unreal; you, who experienced this as well as that, you alone are real. " The waking stage is real until the sleeping stage; the sleeping stage is real, until the waking stage. But, both are unreal, because one cancels the other. " " I just read this story and could understand everything except that one question keeps bothering me.... How can we explain the continuity of the waking state and the discontinuity of the dream state... if both are as unreal as the other, then how is it that life is continuous when we wake up every morning... also in the dream state we do not continue our dream we had the previous night.... please help me understand this.. Guest guest
Dear Brother, Sairam!!! I am not very well versed in scriptures, but let me tell you whatever I know on this subject The waking state that Ashtavakra refered to does not mean each day. It refers to the period from our Birth to Death. This whole period is considered as one waking state. The moment we leave this body..we will understand that whatever that had happened during this whole life time is just like a dream and hence unreal.
