MAKHAN CHORE – KRISHNA (The butter stealer)

Child Krishna, famous for his naughtiness. We are have

read in Srimad Bhagavatha that Sri Krishna, use to

steal butter from the neighborhood houses along with

his friends and he is fond of butter. Upon reading, it

is just a fun story about Sri Krishna’s childhood

play. But there is a great inner meaning to it.

Butter the tender, soft outcome from the buttermilk.

Buttermilk is nothing but fermented milk, which means

the milk has butter in each and every drop of it. But

we are unable to see it when we see the same as milk.

Extracting butter from the buttermilk has got a

process attached to it. First of all, the milk needs

to be boiled, cooled and fermented with little curd.

Then the curd needs to be broken and made as

buttermilk. Then the buttermilk has to undergo the

churning process. After a long churning of buttermilk,

we could get the butter out of it.

Krishna symbolically represents that he likes that

white, soft, tender butter which is nothing but our

heart. It should melt with compassion as the butter

melts when it is in contact with fire. For making our

heart as pure as butter, we need to burn the

ill-thoughts and wrong attitude towards fellow human.

We need to churn our mind with the help of bakthi or

God-consciousness and allow the heart to turn to a

soft and tender butter.

The same way as demi-gods and devils had churned the

ocean of milk. First emanated out of the ocean was

nothing but the poison. But later on the Amrita (the

heavenly nectar that would give eternity of life) came

out. Similarly, we need to churn our heart with the

help of God-conscious and get rid of all demonic

thoughts make our heart as pure as butter, which is

very fond to Sai Krishna. Only then our heart is fit

enough to be offered to God. Such heart is called

Nimala Hridaya Pushpam, which is more superior than a

thousand petaled Lotus leaf and God Himself would take

his seat in such a heart (Hridaya Nivasi).

Let our heart to become the soft butter and let our

Sai Krishna steal our hearts and may we all become

very fond of Sai Krishna.
