It is thyaga, the capacity and willingness to give up, to renounce, to sacrifice. Three qualities distinguish man from other animals: sympathy, compassion and renunciation. Man is both an animal and a divine being. He has risen from animal level. He has to be vigilant that he does not slide into the animal level again. The difference between man and demon is just this.
