Discipline and devotion leads to contentment.

We learn by our own experiences. We learn through our sufferings and we learn through the trials we undergo. Though we blame god or fate for our sufferings, it is really these experiences which elevate us in spiritual progress. We feel that Swami is cruel to inflict the sufferings. Swami himself has said often, that out of love for the devotee, he is put into testing circumstances. When every thing is conducive, and smooth, we never progress. When there is no problem, we will never progress. For instance, if you live a free life, enjoying the sensual pleasures, at some point you will develop a deep disgust. This is known as Divine discontent. We have witnessed the 'hippy culture' several years ago. Those hippies were well educated and from affluent families living a free life. But they got disgusted with the prosperity and start wandering to different places never caring for their dress or look, never caring for any social taboos. In fact, when some hippies came to the Nilayam, Swami gave them work in the printing press. But their innate lathergy prevented them from staying here and they left. They can never find any contentment in their free life. Only where there is disciplne and devotion, any man can progress. In discipline and devotion, there is peace and contentment. It should not be enforced by otheres. We have to willingly submit ourselves to the discipline for our own welfare. Sairam.
