Guest guest
SAI RAM Dear Brothers and Sisters, Some members have been seeking clarifications on certain aspects of my earlier postings through personal mails to me. They are , no doubt, welcome. Though there is nothing wrong in this, this humble self opines that clarifications, if any, on their queries/doubts, should be routed the forum so that some other member can attempt a more elaborate and convincing clarification on the query. Our brother wants to know with reference to postings no. 42 and 43 on this very subject whether it would be correct to say that 'Isvara' has assumed the ' jiva ' status and if this were correct, how a 'jiva 'can get back 'Isvara' status. This humble self would like to attempt some sort of clarification, to the best of his understanding of the query and the subject-matter. Yes, Isvara will attain the jiva status through lack of discrimination and by identifying Himself with the various sheaths of matter and imperfections of those layers of personality. This can be called as the fall of God to manhood which will result in man`s continuous gliding into endless, painful, agonies. We all are basically Isvara only. Because of Avidya(ignorance) we come to identify ourself with our bodies and that is the origin for all the miseries we are experiencing. In an analytical enquiry into the composition of the personality-structure of man the Vedantic thinkers have pointed out five distinct layers as its constituent parts. They termed them as sheaths (Kosas). They are the outermost anatomical structure(Annamayakosa),the physiological activities(Pranamayakosa), the psychological personality( Manomayakosa), the intellectual layer (Vignanamayakosa), and the subconscious tendencies that prompt the intellect to think and act in aparticular given pattern in different individuals(Anandamayakosa). These Kosas constitute the realm of the projected delusory matter, identifying with which the Immaculate Truth, the Pure Consciousness, the Supreme Being assumes to Itself the imperfections that are immanent in these Kosas. The properties of the matter, which are only the imperfections of the sheaths, are as it were imported, into the Ever-pure Self(Atma) but these incompetencies and sorrows are only superimposed upon the Divine, just as a ghost is superimposed on a post, a snake is superimposed on a rope or mirage is superimposed on a desert sand. The only common factor for Isvara and jiva as already stated is Atma, the Pure Consciousness. Once the impurities of personality are purged the very same jiva becomes Isvara. Trust this supplementary comment would remove the doubt and answer the query. With Loving SAI RAMs, G.Balasubramanian
