However, Dharma alone is not enough. While Dharma leads to right action, it is necessary also to acquire Jnaana. True knowledge consists in understanding the unity that underlies the Cosmos. All the sufferings and problems in life arise from the sense of duality. Once the feeling of 'I' and 'mine' is got rid of, Consciousness of the all-pervading Divinity will be realized. - Divine Discourse, January 19th, 1984. CHAPTER 15 1. Krishna says to Arjuna, ‘I have told this many times earlier but since this is so very important, I shall repeat it once more. I am not only the beginning and the end of everything but in fact everything!’ 2. ‘I sent man to this world to yearn for Me and to Love Me. Instead, he has diluted and indeed even polluted My priceless gift of Divine Love into worldly desires. Instead of yearning for Me, he has developed yearning for worldly pleasures and all kinds of trivia not worth talking about.’ 3. ‘Arjuna, take it from Me, if you pine for Me, you will for sure come to Me. Once you come to Me, you will always be with Me. Once you are with Me always, you would be eternally happy, naturally.’ 4. ‘I am your Real Home, and it is from this Home you have gone out into the world. Should you not come back Home sometime? Do you want to keep putting that off? What for? What do you have in that transient world except misery, cleverly sugar-coated with occasional pleasures?’ 5. Arjuna asks, ‘Krishna, You say that once man goes out into the world, he gets lost there. How exactly does this happen?’ 6. Krishna replies, ‘I certainly shall explain and you must listen carefully. To start with, you must understand that man is a composite of three entities that are strikingly different. They are 1) the gross body, 2) the Mind which is a subtle entity, and 3) the Atma, which is super subtle! This three-in-one complex has a special name, the Jivatma, sometimes shortened to just Jiva. In short, you are a Jivatma.’ 7. Arjuna asks, ‘Krishna , are You also a Jivatma?’ 8. Krishna smiles and replies, ‘Of course not!’ 9. A puzzled Arjuna then asks, ‘In that case, what are You?’ 10. Krishna replies, ‘I am Paramatma or God in totality!’ 11. Arjuna is surprised and says, ‘Krishna , that is strange! I can’t see any difference between You and Me. And yet You say that You are Paramatma while I am just a Jivatma. How come?’ 12. Krishna gives the answer. He says, ‘Arjuna, your difficulty neatly pin-points man’s main problem. You are comparing yourself with Me purely on the basis of external vision. Is that correct? Go beyond the body and examine. Are you and I the same?’ 13. ‘Arjuna, you are well below the senses whereas I am far beyond the senses and even the mind! You are below the Gunas, and that is why you are a Jivatma or a spark of the Divine. As for Me, I am far beyond the Gunas and that is why I am Paramatma or God in totality. In principle you also are God but not in practice! But I am God in principle, in practice and any other way you choose to look!’ 14. ‘The differences don’t end here. When a Jivatma gives up the body, the gross body is returned to the elements while the subtle body goes in search of a new body. Even as the wind carries the scent of flowers from place to place, the current of Destiny sweeps the subtle body from one gross body to another, in accordance with the rhythm of the cycle of birth and death. This is what I described earlier in terms of dress change. My case is entirely different; I come and go as I please!’ 15. ‘The Jivatma has to go through many cycles of births and deaths because of all kinds of unfulfilled desires. Let us say a Jivatma desires something and cannot get it. It gets a fresh chance to attain that in the next birth. So you see if you want to get out of the rut, you have to put a ceiling on desires. And this is where sense and mind control enters the picture.’ 16. ‘Lack of self-control breeds desires, desires cause mind pollution and delusion, and delusion traps the Jivatma in the cycle that I referred to.’ 17. ‘This is where the example set by Yogis becomes very important. The Yogis see things very clearly. Thanks to their power of sharp discrimination, they can clearly distinguish between the unreal and the Real. They summarily reject the unreal and focus entirely on the Real or Reality as some refer to it.’ 18. ‘That Reality is Me! Wherever the Yogi turns, he sees only Me. You look up in the sky and say, “Ah, the Sun is shining brilliantly.” The Yogi looks and he also sees the same Sun but his words are different. He says, “I see Divine Glory radiating there as the Sun!”’ 19. ‘Everything in the external world so-called, the five elements, the Sun, Moon, stars and whatever else you can see, is nothing but Me and Me alone! Do you ever get that feeling? Never but that is how the Yogi always feels! He sees only God everywhere and all the time!’ 20. ‘The Yogi sees God within also. He sees God seated in his Heart, he sees God functioning as the Pranaa or the vital life-force, he sees God doing the digesting, he sees God doing the blood-circulation and all the rest of it. In short, the Yogi is fully conscious that it is I who provide the basic life-force, the basic creativity, the basic intelligence, and so on.’ (To be continued...) -- .................................................................................................................................... SCENE 1 SWAMI'S STORY.....A group of boys are playing on the bank of the river. They are jumping around and catching frogs. CHORUS: Look, there’s a frog! See, a small frog here! Jump like frogs!! I got one! I got two frogs!! BOY 1: Hey, don’t touch them; it is not good. BOY 2: We’ll take all these home. BOY 3: How shall we take them? BOY 4: Here’s a basket; put them all in. Sathya comes along and watches the boys causing pain to the frogs. SATHYA: Stop, stop! Poor things, let them be free and play happily; don’t imprison them in the basket. BOY: If they are happy playing, so are we. SATHYA: If play is what you want, let us all play together. Does anyone play with frogs? See how they are suffering. Let them go. You must not kill living beings. ANOTHER BOY: We are not killing them but just taking them home. THIRD BOY: We will play with them. SATHYA: Causing pain to dumb animals is a great sin. BOY: It is not a sin. Frogs can survive anywhere. They will be safer in the basket than in water. SATHYA: Will you be safe if you are thrown into water? Every species must be in its own habitat. This is the secret of Creation. BOY: I too will tell you a secret. There are snakes in the water. And do you know what snakes do when they see a frog? They grab them and swallow them! ANOTHER BOY: But will not the frog then die? FIRST BOY: It will. And it is to protect the frogs that we are putting them all in the basket and taking them home. SATHYA: God alone knows whom to protect, whom to save, and whom to punish. We don’t. BOY: That’s why we are saving them. SATHYA: You think you are very clever? Release the frogs, or else…. BOY: I will not release them. SATHYA: Release, or else…. BOY: I will not! Sathya waves His hand. The frogs all turn into pigeons and fly away. The boys are astounded. BOYS: Hey! The frogs have changed into pigeons!! ONE BOY: Raju, we don’t understand your words but we understand your heart. You are not an ordinary person like us. We made a terrible mistake. Please forgive us! SATHYA: It is good that you have realised your mistake. No one must ever again do this kind of thing. BOYS: Yes Raju. SATHYA: Come, let us go. In this manner, Sathya exhibited noble qualities from a very young age and taught virtues to people. He transformed them in many ways. He always corrected those who inflicted pain or spoke harshly. SCENE 2 During the period Sathya was studying in the Bukkapatnam School, His elder brother Seshama Raju got married to one Suseelamma, the daughter of Pasupathi Subbaraju of Kamalapuram. Seshama Raju then went to Kamalpuram. There he stayed with his in-laws. Sathya was sent along with Seshama, so that He could pursue higher studies there under the direct supervision of His elder brother. Before all this happens, while Seshama is still in Puttaparthi, one day, Seshama is walking along a street in Puttaparthi. At that time, two people seated under a tree are talking to each other. MAN UNDER TREE: Look, Seshama Raju is coming. I’ll talk to him. THE OTHER MAN: [to Seshama] Look, sir, is it proper for you to do this? SESHAMA RAJU: What are you talking about? FIRST MAN: Great! You talk as though you know nothing! The whole village is talking about your younger brother Raju, and you act as if you don’t know anything. I understand! SECOND MAN: It appears that Raju does magic and chants strange hymns. He is apparently claiming to have great powers. FIRST MAN: If this sort of thing continues, we will not keep quiet. We have put up with it so far on account of the prestige of your grandfather and father. Din some sense into your younger brother and ask him to act according to his age. SECOND MAN: It seems that he is preaching that cock fighting and other such games are harmful to animals. He is even composing and singing provocative songs to campaign against such sports. Haven’t we been having these sports for ages? SESHAMA RAJU: Yes sir, I will advise my brother suitably. Please understand that I am not supporting my brother Sathyam, but in childhood, does not one do many things in sheer innocence? You should therefore not be too much disturbed by these things. FIRST MAN: Matters have gone too far, Seshama Raju. We don’t hate or dislike your brother. Rather, it is out of concern for him that we are reporting to you; he is a son of the Raju family, is he not? Well, it is all up to you now. SESHAMA RAJU: Don’t worry sir, I shall do the needful. SECOND MAN: You had better do something before matters get out of hand! FIRST MAN: Well said sir! SCENE 3 House of Venkama Raju. Members of the family have gathered and are discussing the complaints against Sathya, being made by various people in the village. Kondama Raju also is present. KONDAMA RAJU: Sathyam, it seems there are many complaints against You! SESHAMA RAJU: Yes mother. The other day He made all the pupils in the Puttaparthi School go on strike. Is this what children of His age do? And when the Telugu master in the Bukkapatnam School asked why He had not written the notes, He gave a peculiar answer. The Teacher let Him off lightly but Sathyam got the Teacher stuck to the chair. When asked why He had done so, He replied that He had done it for fun, and not as an insult to the Teacher. Now, He has created another problem. For generations the people in the village have been having cock fighting and horse racing; but He has attacked these traditional sports and incited people to sing songs against these past-times. The elders of the village are agitated and are asking if this is the sort of thing a young kid ought to do. SATHYA: Grandfather! I did not do anything wrong. Medicine may be bitter but when taken it does good, does it not? Good advice is like medicine; why don’t people understand that? KONDAMA RAJU: Well said my dear grandson! That’s the way to teach lessons to people!! SESHAMA RAJU: [to Kondama] You alone are impressed by the words of your grandson; others are not. No one understands what He says and even if they do, they will not accept. In this Kali Age, how many people will listen to good advice? And, is He of the right age to talk about such matters as good and bad, Morality and Justice, Dharma and Divinity? KONDAMA RAJU: [to Sathya] Answer him! SATHYA: Good and bad, Morality and Justice, Dharma and Divinity, have nothing to do with age! SESHAMA RAJU: Mother! Do you see how He answers back with scant respect for my seniority in age? EASWARAMMA: [to Seshama] He is not arguing with you but, out of affection for you, telling you what you should know! Look Seshama, why don’t you think of a solution that would prevent Sathyam, from coming to harm? VENKAMA RAJU: There is only one way – let us send Sathyam to Kamalapuram. SESHAMA RAJU: Yes father, I too wanted to make the same suggestion. EASWARAMMA: Kamalapuram? VENKAMA RAJU: Yes, Kamalapuram has a High School suitable for higher studies, once one completes studies in the Bukkapatnam School. Seshama is already there, undergoing Teacher’s training, and staying with his in-laws. Sathyam can stay along with Seshama and study there. KONDAMA RAJU: Well Sathyam, will you go to Kamalapuram? SATHYA: Grandpa, who are we to decide what should be done and what should not be? God alone decides! As for Me, all places are the same to Me. VENKAMA RAJU: That looks like a good solution. You will get good education there, that will prepare You well for a Government job. What do you say, Easwari? EAAWARAMMA: There are still three months more for Vijayadasami [the admission time]. We’ll think about it when the time comes. But then, father-in-law has to agree, has he not? KONDAMA.RAJU: What can I say my dear? I am an old man, and it is all the same to me. Just that I am very much attached to the young one. Seshama, Venkama! You both want Him to go to Kamalapuram so that His behaviour changes, so that He can study better, so that no harm befalls Him, and so that He eventually becomes a great man, is that not? Well then, send Him there! Even He has agreed!! It is not in Sathya’s nature to offend or hurt anyone. Experience of the Author.Dr.R.T.Kakade & Dr.A.Veerbhadra.Rao. ____________________________ I, started reading the book, Sri Sai Sachahatita after returning from my first visit to Shirdi. Even my brother noticed, at the outset that I did not evince much interest in reading the book, he told me that I may just read if not as a Sachchirita o r any other holy book, but just as a novel or biography. "There is no restrictions as to when, where and how you should read this it., he said at any time, anywhere, even without having any faith in this book or in Baba. But one thing I can tell you you experience of readers of this book has been that whenever anyone goes to Shirdi and after return, reads this book, he will certainly get some experience which will create faith in the holy man. I was not impressed not impressed nor even interested; but just out of regard for my brother, I started reading the book with an open mind, which neither faith nor prejudice, perhaps just as I would read a novel. Hardly had I finished reading the first chapter, sitting in my room one fine morning there was a tap at the door. One of my patient from Visapur, a hamlet of about 200 houses in Satara district had come all the way, a distance of over ninety miles to take me to his village, to see his ailing mother. She was being treated by the local doctors for over three months, but no improvement in her condition. This village had some pleasant associations in my mind. In fact I had started my medical career as Plague Epidemic Officer, in this very village, years ago, even before I had passed my final year examination. The district board in those days used to draw upon the final year and repeater students from medical schools and colleges to appoint to those posts on a temporary and adhoc basis. I had worked with these people in their villages for about six months and they had developed a certain affectionate regard for me and my services. They reposed so much faith in me and my treatment that even while I was serving in the army and was stationed at Pune, they used to approach me quite often to take my prescription for their ailments. At that time, I was working as Epidemic Medical Officer, in the Khed Talug in the Pune district quite far away from this village, and still he came allthe way seeking my help. I was touched. It was Saturday and I was therefore free to accompany him to his village, So I agreed. He promised to join me at the Railway Station with tickets for both of us, and left. I went to the station at 12.30 p.m. I took the copy of Sai Sachcarita which I had been reading then, with me, so that I could read it in the train. When I came to the station, the train was already on the platform and was packed to capacity. I searched for the gentleman who was to join me but no avail. Time ticked by and the time for the train to leave approached. Without a second thought I jumped into the nearest inter class compartment just as the train started moving. I was hoping that my escort would also have boarded the train with our tickets. The compartment was so overcrowded that I could hardly stand there with my book in one hand and my suitcase and medical bag in the other. Hardly had the train moved a few yards, a traveling ticket collector entered our compartment. I felt a little embarrassed as I had no regular ticket with me. Surprisingly, the first thing the ticket collector did was to ask two of the passengers occupying the seats to vacate them for me as they had with them only third class tickets, while this a higher class. He never knew that I did not posses even a third class ticket, nor to talk a proper ticket. He started checking the tickets of the passengers in the compartment, collecting penalty charges from those travel ling without tickets or having lower class tickets... I Found myself placed in a most awkward situation traveling without ticket, and in addition having no Money with me to pay for the ticket and for the penalty, in case the ticket collector chose to ask me for my ticket. Very unusually, I had not even cared to cared to carry any money with me though invariably I would, even when the patients were meeting all my expenses on the journey. I felt ashamed of myself and confused, not knowing how I could face the situation. The ticket collector did come to me, at last, but strange it seems, he did not only ask me for my ticket bit on the other hand started profusely apologizing for the inconvenience caused to me by the passengers who jumped into compartment without having proper tickets. He went off at a tangent commenting on the indiscipline of the masses and so on. I was in no mood to listen to his harangue, embarrassed as I was myself, I did not know what was going to happen the next moment. My pulse rate doubled. After a few anxious minutes I was glad to see him move on the next section of the compartment leave me to figure out what a silly figure I would cut before him and the other co-passengers, when the next time he came, and found that I was traveling without a ticket! A well-dressed gentlemen, with a doctor's qualification and an ex-Army Officer at that traveling without without ticket! Unimaginable!! After a few minutes, the ticket collector who appeared to me as a hells messenger, came back and sat by my side. My book was in my hand,,,I recalled my brother's words and opened the book. On the first page I saw Baba's picture and touched the feet with my right hand and I fervently prayed in my mind "Baba" I have heard so much about you. I believe you have saved so many people from many disaster. They say you always respond to sincere prayers. If you are so generous and if you are a God, please answer my prayers and come to my rescue and save me at this juncture." I paused in reverence and shut the book. The ticket collector was talking to me all the while, but I was not aware of what he was talking about. I was so engrossed on my awkward situation and possible denouement, that I abruptly came alive to the present, when he asked me my destination, with some difficulty I could just spurt out "Koregaon"...I expected that his next question would be for my ticket. But my fear were belied. The ticket collector went on in unapologetic tone. " I am sincerely sorry, sir, for the inconvenience caused to you by the passengers crowding into this compartment...yor are sweating, no doubt,( but for a very different reason )! ...You were feeling most uncomfortable all the while: but Don's worry sir, so many these passengers, I am going to detain at the b next station. The train stopped at the next station which was 'Ghorpadi' and three fourths of passengers who were occupying our compartment were sent out by the ticket collector. He brought me a bottle of ice-cold lemonade and offered it to me saying, "Sir, you take this, you have had bad time." He sat by my side and continued talking about everything on earth, but not a ward about my ticket. I felt highly relived. I had taken my finger away from inside the book, but I had not stopped my prayers. I slowly started sipping the cold lemonade as I needed it badly!. At the next halt, the ticket collector got down promising me at "Koregaon". I heaved a sigh of relief! I opened the book, and touched Baba's feet, in thanks giving reverence, and started reading the second chapter. At 5p.m I got down at the Koregaon station. My patient joined me there and was not surprised to see the ticket collector coming to me in hurry. He said, "Sir, we shall have a cup of coffee together before we part."...He took us to the coffee stall and after we finished our coffee, followed us to the bus stand to see us off. We started out on the bus journey and my patient said, apologetically , "Doctor sir, I was searching for you at the station, I was a bit late to arrive at the station, with the result that I could not purchase the tickets. Assuming that you must have purchased both the tickets, I boarded the train at the last moment. I am sorry to have caused so much inconveniences.:...Poor fellow, he did not know that I too did not purchase any tickets and that we both of us, traveled but safely and comfortably. The only price I had paid for this happy ending was my hearty prayers to Baba. Whatever be others reaction to this incident, to me it was nothing short of a miracle, with the hand of Baba revealing itself, in answer to my fervent prayers. One may call it a chance coincidence, that the ticket collector should have presumed that I would not have traveled without ticket, because I looked Evey inch a gentleman, educated responsible and all that and hence never thought of cheating my ticket. I for one, would not credit a ticket examiner, on a mofussil train, with such finer sentiments our courtesies. It was an experience, the first of its kind in my life, which drew me into Baba's fold. The seed was sown, which later developed into a firm faith, through many more incidents to be narrated in the course of the following chapters. .................................................................................................. 1.Materilazation of Jewels belonging to the time of Rama - Pic2. Part of Krishna's Kaustubha jewel materialized by Bhagavân top materialization of jewels belonging to the time of Rama From an interview with Prof. Anil Kumar ...AK: At times, Swami takes the boys out on a picnic, where He almost plays with the boys. Sometimes, He even sings with the boys. All sorts of funny things happen.GV: Does it all remind you of Krishna and His cowherd boys, the Gopalas?AK: Yes, I think it is all action replay, like a tape being replayed.GV: Except for the age difference between the physical body of the Lord and those who are with Him this time?AK: May be, but Bhagavan crosses all time barriers when He materialises certain things. I know Sir, one year He materialised the ring worn by Lord Rama that was presented to Him by His father Dasaratha.GV: Oops! The ring that Dasaratha gave?!! AK: That is right. It was a diamond ring, and Swami was smiling as He looked around while materialising another ring – this time it was a sapphire ring that was presented to Lord Rama by His father-in-law, Emperor Janaka.GV: I am told these rings are very big?AK: Very big indeed. I said, “Swami, it is almost the size of my wrist. How come this ring is so big?” Swami replied, “Lord Rama was an Aajanubhau, meaning one of very tall stature.GV: Eight feet or so?AK: Yes, Swami then materialised the Mangalsutra or sacred wedding medallion, complete with the sacred thread that holds the medallion. This was worn by Mother Sita at the time of the wedding. I have also seen Swami materialising the chain worn by Ravana.GV: Ravana?AK: Yes, complete with 365 Shiva Lingas and a pendant at the bottom made up of three large Shiva Lingas, one yellow, one green and one blue. All the 365 were made of gold while the three in the pendant at the centre were made of crystal. This was the chain that Ravana wore. GV: What happens to these jewels afterwards?AK: They go back to SAI STORES (laughter). Swami also materialised a golden replica of the deer that captivated Sita, later landing her in trouble. GV: Are you allowed to touch these objects?AK: Yes, sir. On one occasion, Swami said, “Tomorrow is the wedding function of Balarama [brother of Krishna] and Revathi. All of you are invited for lunch!” Sure enough, on the following day, there was a fabulous lunch and in the afternoon Swami spoke about the marriage of Balarama with Revathi. And at the end He materialised a magnificent diamond-studded necklace with three or four rows of diamonds.GV: My GOD! How big was the necklace?AK: About 15 cms. At the centre of the arch-like necklace there was a Swan suspended by a gold chain. The Swan was clear and you could look through its eyes, beak, stomach, and so on. Every body started looking at it. Swami came to me and said, “Look, look deep”. I did so and there in the middle of the stomach of that bird I could see Bhagavan Baba in a reclining posture, the classic reclining posture of Lord Narayana, reclining on His Thousand-hooded snake, Adisesha. That is what I saw. It was absolutely fantastic. Swami also materialised the CHOODAMANI or the ornament that Sita used to wear on her head. This was the CHOODAMANI that Hanuman brought back as proof of having met Sita, when he reported back to the Lord Rama. GV: How do the boys feel on such occasions? They must be transported to a different world.AK: That is right, into a totally different world. They had come so close that they even took the liberty of almost pestering, saying, “Swami, let us see, let us see!” Swami gave ample opportunities for all to see these manifested objects at close quarters. He would keep them on the table so that everybody could later see at some leisure. Photographs would be taken and some of them are here in our MUSEUM also. [...]top Source: http://www.radiosai.org/Journals/Vol_02/04Feb15/05_Moments_Memories/memories.htmRadio Sai E-Magazine, February 15, 2004. Radio Sai Website The Kanayazhi Ring, which was sent to Mother Sita through Hanuman top Sri Sathya Sai Baba materialisedthe pearl necklace that Sita gifted to Hanuman Rama Navami is the festival that marks the advent of the Lord as Rama. Many years, the festival occurs when Swami is in Kodai. On such occasions, the festival becomes a truly memorable day for the boys. On one such Rama Navami day, Swami materialised the pearl necklace that Sita gifted to Hanuman at the time of Rama's Coronation. Rama was distributing various gifts to members in the assembly but somehow, He seemed to skip Hanuman. Sita was troubled by this apparent indifference; how could such a loyal one like Hanuman be overlooked on an occasion like this? So, she whispered to Rama that Hanuman should not be forgotten. Rama whispered back that Hanuman was way above material gifts. Sita was not quite satisfied by this reply; so she took out a pearl necklace that she was wearing and offered it to Hanuman. While receiving the necklace, Hanuman gave it a suspicious look. He then placed the necklace near one of his ears as if to check whether the individual pearls were emitting some sound. He appeared to examine every pearl in the necklace, and once in a while, he would bite a pearl. Sita was shocked by this behaviour. Was Hanuman proving that, after all, he was a monkey? She demanded an explanation from Hanuman for what he was doing. With great humility Hanuman replied, "Mother, for me the Name of Rama is supreme. An object is worthless if it does not resound with the Name of Rama. Some of these pearls are not emitting the proper sound and so I am chewing them up." Sita was neither convinced nor amused and tersely remarked, "Pearls do not emit sound." Hanuman replied, "Everything that is saturated with the Rama Principle will always chant the Name of Rama. Let me demonstrate." So saying, Hanuman plucked a hair from his body and offered it to Rama. When Sita took it near her ear, she could clearly hear the chant of Rama's Name! This was the way Hanuman proved to the world how intense true devotion really is. After narrating the story and materialising the necklace, Swami passed it around and asked the boys to carefully examine it. Sure enough many pearls had teeth marks! After everyone present there had had a look, Swami made the necklace disappear! Aura of Divinity It is often said that Divine personalities have an aura about them. Some scientists believe that all living beings, including plants, have an aura. This is not visible to the eye but can be photographed by a technique known as Kirlian photography. Dr. Frank Baronowski, a Professor in Arizona State University in America, is an expert in this field. He not only photographs aura but is blessed with the rare gift of being able to see the aura directly with his eyes. In 1979, he came to India to make a study of aura of holy men in the country. Inevitably, his travels brought him to Baba, who was then in Bangalore. At the time Baronowski reached Whitefield, a course arranged by Baba for school teachers was in progress. Baronowski heard about this and was naturally keen to speak in the conference, sharing his numerous experiences. Baba knew about this and in His own way made it possible. But first, Baronowski had to see something he had never seen before! The Professor's first glimpse of Swami was during the early morning Darshan. In those days, Swami used to give Darshan at the conclusion of the Nagarsankeertan, the early morning prayer/Bhajan procession that one can see to this day in Prasanti Nilayam. Baronowski was stunned by what he saw - Baba's aura was simply out of this world. He saw it again and again - during the morning Darshan and the afternoon Darshan. He saw how this extra-ordinary aura enveloped one and all, believers and non-believers alike, those who were directly looking at Him and those whose attention was wandering. Later, Baronowski was given the opportunity to speak during the conference proceedings, in the immediate presence of Bhagavan Baba. Here is an extract of what he said: I have met over a hundred holy men in India. Too many of these holy men are involved in their own personal egos. Their auras show mostly concern for themselves and their institutions. So, the auras are only about 25 cm. broad or perhaps 50 cm. I am not a devotee of Sai Baba. I have come here as a scientist, to see this man Sai Baba. I saw Him on Sunday, on the balcony giving Darshan to devotees below. The aura that Baba projected was not that of a man. The white was more than twice the size of any man's, the blue was practically limitless, and there were gold and silver bands beyond even those, far beyond this building, right up to the horizon. There is no scientific explanation for this phenomenon. His aura is so strong that it is affecting me standing by the chair on which He is sitting. I can feel the effect and I have to wipe my arm, off and on, as you must have noticed. It is very difficult for me to admit. I am a scientist. I have given over six thousand lectures in all parts of the world, but this is the first time, believe me, my knees are shaking. The aura that emanates from Baba shows His Love for you. I have met any number of holy men, but none of them have made themselves as available to you as Baba does. That is a sign of greatness. Baba has given you the key to success - the simple four-lettered word: LOVE! If ever I can use the phrase that I have seen Love walking on two feet, it is here. I have been watching Baba, while He was addressing you. The pink aura that was manifesting was so vast and strong that it went even to the hall behind this chair. It filled the big hall, embracing all of you here. There can be no scientific explanation for this phenomenon. I have watched Him for a week now as He walked among you, morning and evening. I have seen this aura, pink in colour, go into the person He is talking to or touching. This is because we draw on His energy. His energy seems to be limitless. It spreads everywhere and can be drawn upon by everyone around. An ordinary man will soon get exhausted going round as He does, among so many. I have watched Him come to a little girl, in a wheel chair and tickle her. I was astounded at the aura of Love that was all around Him then. I am not brought up in any belief, though I am a Christian born and a Roman Catholic. The scientific community in my country finds it difficult to accept a God. It is not scientific, they assert. I am risking my reputation when I make this statement. Two days ago, right outside this hall, I looked into His eyes. They have a glow inside them. It is clear to me that I looked into the face of Divinity. There is no scientific explanation for this; there should not be! In my estimation, He is exactly what He appears to be - LOVE! That is what He is! I have spoken on platforms where President Ford of the United States, Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain and Queen Wilhelmina of Netherlands have been present, but I will never forget this experience! It is really overwhelming in its impact. Dr.Baronowski had the rare blessing to 'see' the aura of Love. The rest of us may not be able to 'see' it, but none can deny that we all 'feel' the infinite Love of Bhagavan, when in His presence or even when we just think Him! Source: Radio Sai E-Magazine November 15, 2003 -- (PROF KASTUR GOD IN ACTION) ---------------------------- Here is a phenomenon in human form, ever present, ever loving, ever merciful, ever anxious to implant a seed of love and ecstacy in your heart, even through you lock the door of your heart, someone inside a room has attached himself to appreance, is in darkness. Swami wants to save him, show him the reality, he wants to lead him to light, he wants to trach him eternal truth, because he has come for that purpose. But, the fellow inside is happy with the appreance, dancing, putting wrong steps, stepping into bottomless pit. What can Swami do if he does not open the door? In His anxiety to save him from tragedy of ruining himself. Swami breaks open the door! Mercifully He does it. For instances, He broke open my heart's door, so that He could get in. Prof Kastiri writes , he says I was a devotee of Ramahrishna Paramahansa and Vivekanda, a good m of England.an not capable of harming anybody,a teacher in a college, being the wisest in the class room, putting something in children's head, doing my spiritual practices, proud of my intellectual abilties, I was humorous essays, teasing everone, rudely out people bad deeds. I got a literary award for being the best humarist in the language of the region. There was an English magazine in Delhi to which I contributed a column "Mere prattle," evey week something like "Cherivora" in the "Punch" of England. Some of my hits used to throw one over the others, and I used to feel proud. People used to keep aways from me because they were afraid that I may redicule them! My head was getting swollen, and I used my cleverness to hurt orhes people. I was making fum of Sai! My cleverness has gone so far! Swami was waiting perhaps, and He got an oppertunity. My son, who was studying in an engineering college, who his professors were saying will get a top rank, fell ill from typhoid, long, long before the medical world successfully treat it and save. He passed way. One of his friends who was visiting Swami and told him, "Swami, my friend, son of Kasturi passed away. "Swami gave him 'vibhuthi' to be given to me. He brought the vibhuthi to me. I said, Who is this Baba ? Which Baba can help me now ?My tragedy cannot be saved by any Baba or any vibhuthi now. I don"t use the vibhuthi. " Swami was so loving, merciful and compassionate. He wanted to save me. But, I did not welcome Him. So, He forced His way to my heart. Suppose some tragedy is happening inside a room and you go and knock the door to save someone inside and he does not open the door! What do you do ? You break the door to save him. That is what Swami sometimes does! And, we would be thankful to Him for that. Sai Ram ...................................................................................................................................... Once Baba sang a verse in which He declared that He is the Unseen Force that regulates the moments of celestial bodies and all forms of life, and designs the destinies of each of us.This is when He inaugurated the All India Conference of Sai organization held at Madras. His will is all powerful and eternal, it can change the course, come down and move as a man among men. At another time He said. "There are three types of men : those who seek happiness for themselves first, with no attention paid to others...those who consider others first and thereby derive happiness...and those who will try to prevent others from being happy even at the cost of their own happiness."To a group of Americans He once gave a message that was different in emphasis. "You are the smiling flowers," He wrote, "You are the twinkling star. What is there on the earth and in the sky that you are not? Then , why need you desire? You are the God of the universe. You create the universe and , after playing with it for some time, draw it into yourself and are the same again. What you really are Truth Consciousness- Bliss... Baba insists that every one be made aware of the goal of life, which to pass from the stage of " I am in the Light, to the stage..."The Light is in me,. on to the ultimate truth that I am the light. When you are the Light, there can be no darkness, no desire, no fear, no hatred, no ego. Light the lamp of morality and righteousness, the lamp that once shone bright in this land. Let its light illumine the world..................................................................................................................................... Divine hand can do anything...see the light from Hos Fingure. Watch the Divine Light from Bhagawan's Hand Dear Sai Brothers and Sisters, Om Sai Ram. Many if not all of you must have read about the following Miracles of Bhagawan, Swami's Divine Miracles are for all times and to shared time after time with everyone, to read and heard again and again, They are like the Golden Nectar : The Rainbow Man A sceptic is convinced of Bhagawan’s Divinity. Joel Riordan, Hollywood film producer, writer and director, has an interesting story about how Baba changed his sceptic mind and sowed the seeds of faith in his heart. When Joel visited Prasanthi Nilayam along with his wife, Diana, who was a sincere devotee of Baba, he came with the intention to ‘expose’ Baba whom he sarcastically called ‘character’. Joel has narrated his thrilling first encounter to Mr. Howard Murphet, which he recorded it in his book,“Sai Baba Avatar”: ‘Diana had been over to India a couple of times with her mother, Analise, and both of them used to talk about Sai Baba's miracles. I thought they must both be mad, or at least going mad. I seriously considered divorcing Diana. But there was my daughter Chrissie to think of. Anyway, I finally decided that, before doing anything drastic, I would go over and see this “character”, Sai Baba, for myself. My parents had been show people and I was just about brought up in a circus. I was keenly interested in conjuring, and had seen what went on behind all the stage tricks. I figured that even if this character in India was a second Houdini, I would be able to expose him as a conjuror, and not a holy man miracle worker, as people claimed. Just before I left Hollywood, I was having lunch with an important guy and - to give him a laugh - told him what I was planning to do. He seemed to have heard of Sai Baba, or read about him - may be in Schulman's book, or yours - any way, he said: "What are you going to ask him for, Joel?" The idea came to me then. I answered: "They say this character is God-so I'll ask him for something only God can make - a rainbow". He laughed, and we talked about other matters. But I decided that was what I would ask for.’ When asked by Howard Murphet, whether his friend had known any Sai devotees in California, Joel replied: 'I checked on that later - for the same reason as you ask. No, he did not. He lived in a different world from them. No chance that anyone carried the story to Swami. Anyway, a few days after that I flew to India, bringing Diana and Chrissie with me. It was early afternoon when we arrived in Puttaparthi, and an hour or so later we went for a walk up that hill behind the hospital. It was a hot, dry day, and we went up for a breath of air. We sat on some rocks and looked out over the country. It looked grim and parched-made me feel dehydrated just to see it. Then in the western sky a bright rainbow appeared, Odd, I thought, how can you have a rainbow without a drop of moisture in the air? Something else struck me as peculiar. Instead of being curved in the usual way, the rainbow stood straight up in the sky like a column. I felt a bit spooky about it. Had this “character” heard my words right across in America, and caused this phenomenon? Then the colours started to fade out from the bottom up. I felt I needed a drink. But of course there's no alcohol at Puttaparthi, and even the water was warm in that season.' In answer to Howard Murphet’s query whether his wife Diana had known about his unusual wish, he replied: 'Yeah, I mentioned it to her on the way over on the plane. She saw the rainbow all right - ask her, yourself. Afterwards, we came down from the hill, and there was a message that Swami wanted to see us. Diana got more excited about that than about the rainbow, but as we had come a long way, it seemed natural enough to me that He would see us on the first day. When we walked into the interview room, Swami's first words knocked me out: "Well, character, how did you like your rainbow?" 'I was too dumbfounded to answer. He knew my name for Him, and what I was going to ask for, and had put that odd rainbow in the sky! It all blew my mind. Well, I sat with the others on the floor, hardly hearing, and not understanding, what He was talking about. In fact, my mind was racing about like a rat in a trap, trying to find a way back to the common-sense world I knew. Granted he was a mind reader; telepathy does exist between people. It's been proved scientifically. But the rainbow must have been a hallucination or I had been hypnotized. “I'll give him another test”, I thought to myself, “I will ask Him to produce some fresh fruit-out-of- season fruit - right here in this room, without warning.” A few minutes after I'd had this thought, Swami stopped talking and waved his hand in his usual way. When he turned it up I saw a fresh fig sitting on his palm. He handed it to me without a word. I ate it later. It was as fresh, as if had just been picked. Yet, figs were out of season and, as I learned later, none grew in that area anyway.’ This was how Bhagawan transformed Joel Riordan and sowed the seeds of faith in his heart. Later He gave him the job of supervising some painting work in the Brindavan Ashram in preparation for the Summer Course that year. Joel was later fortunate to spend a lot of time staying with Baba and basking in His love and grace. Reference: “Sai Baba Avatar” by Howard Murphet. Page: 39-42. Publisher: Macmillan India Limited, 1978. Ms. Diana Baskin too records this amazing story in “Divine Memories of Sathya Sai Baba”... “ JEWELS FROM AFAR” Experience of Diana Baskin. (From the book "Baba is God in Human Form.) Diana Baskin and her story. One evening in Brindavan, we were all gathered at Swami’s feet, listening with rapt attention as He told us a fascinating story of artisan’s love for Lord Krishna. He described a magnificent gold statue that the artisan had made of his beloved Lord . He said the statue had been designed by divine inspiration. Lord Krishna, Himself had guided every movement of artist's hand during its creation. Suddenly, Swami asked us: “Would you like to see it? “Oh, yes!” we eagerly answered in unison. Swami waved His hand and in it appear a resplendent gold statue. Many brilliant precious gems adorned Krishna’s head and body. The graceful figure sparkled and glowed as though alive. The precious statue was then passed around and each person was able to hold and admire it. When it returned to Swami, He held in it in His hand a moment. Then it disappread. Swami then told us a story about treaty which India had made with another country. He explained that the entire treaty had been carved on a huge emerald that was presently being kept in the same museum as the Krishna statue. “ I will get it for you, “He said. When he stopped waving His hand, there appear in His palm a very large emerald. We were all breathless! What an extraordinary, magical evening this was.!. We passed the emerald among ourselves slowly, not wanting these rare moments to end. “Pass it quickly, “Swami gently prodded us, “ I have to return to it the museum before the guard realize it is gone. Jai Sai Ram ...Ram.Chugani. Kobe Japan (Sharing with Sai Love) ----------------------- .....SRI SATHYA SAI SATHCHARITHRA. EXPERIENCE BY JANDHYALA VENKATESWARA SASTRY. On 29th June 1963 Bhagavan Sai Baba suffered a stroke due to thrombosis and the let side of Hiss body was paralysed. Hundred of devotees who had assembled in Prashanthi Nilayam were agonised on seeing the suffering of the Master. During that week, Swami was in coma for three days. He survived four heart attacks. Disconsolate devotees could do nothing but shed bitter tears in utter heplnessness. After full week, on the Guru Poornima day, 6th July Bhagavan was very carefully brought down from his upper floor apartment to the Bhajan Hall on the ground floor in the arms of Sri Kasturi, Sri Raja Reddy and Sri Krishnappa. It was obviously difficult so seat Baba as usual in his throne on the elevated dais. So, the silver throne was brought down and placed on the ground close to the dais. Soft cushions were position so as to avoid discomfort to Baba, and He was slowly eased into it. Baba’s left hand was stiff. The left leg was equally out of control. His eyes too were unclear. On finding their beloved Lord in that terrible state of suffering, the devotees began to wail loudly. Then Swami whispered to Sri Kasturi in barely intelgible words. “This illness is not Mine.On My own Volition, I have taken over this illness on Myself. No disease can ever assail Me. Let no body worry. I cannot bear, if My devotees suffer. Sri Kasturi used the microphone to announce Baba’s words to the gathering. Swami gestured for water to drink. When a tumbler of water was held to His lips, He could not hold it properly and the fingers of His right hand slipped into the water. With those fingers He sprinkled a little water on the limp left hand and the left leg. He gently stroked His left hand with His right hand and in a few moments stroked His leg with hands. The astonished assembly of devotees, now delirious with joy and ecstasy, realized that Swami had cured Himself. They heard Him addressing them in the microphone, “Prama Swaroopulara” ( Oh Emdoidment of love)! He began delivering His customary address on the auspicious day of the Guru Poornima! Swami spoke for an hour regaling the audience with His characteristic eloquence, lucidity and exquisite humour. He related the eight-day suffering of Rishi Bharadwaja, at the end of which Lord Siva made him whole by sprinkling holy water on his paralysed limbs Swami recalled Lords promise that He and His consort would incarnate on the earth as Siva-Sakti, that Sakti (represented by the left side of the body) would suffer for eight days, at the end of which Lord Siva (the right side of the body) would restore Her to health by sprinkling holy water. In ringing tones Swami declared “ I am Siva-Sakthi” born in the gothram of rishi Bharadwaja” by virtue of the boon conferred on him by Lord Siva and Goddess Sakthi in the Tretha Yuga. Jai Sai Ram (Sharing With Sai Love) This is true story of Bhagavan from Excerpt from "Tapovanam" (Sacred life story of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.) .................................................................................................................................... RADHA AND KRISHNA --------- Swami tell us a beautiful story about" Radha's Love for Krishna. see the story below: "Oh, Radha' Radha, what a devotee was Radha.- Search Mail: Story of Radha told by Swami (From With Love…Man is God) ( Experience of Dr Samuel H Sandweiss, M.D) .............................................................................................................................. One time, Swami spoke to me about Radha’s love for Lord Krishna and how much her breath, mind and heart were always absorbed in KrishnaCan we so completely in love with Swami like the gopis (milkmaids). Who grew up with Krishna and who only thought of Krishna and spent all there time looking for him? Once Swami delivered a stirring discourse about Krishna and also in an interview Swami asked, Sandweiss, what did you think of my talk? I was surprised that Swami should ask me such question, and I responded, “Swami it was wonderful. I loved it.” He asked, “Was it too long? I was worried that Swami might have seen me yawn or turn my attention away for a moment. I said , “No Swami, it was not too long. It was perfect.” Swami sat back in his chair and started telling us about Radha. He appread in ecstasy and began speaking lovingly about her. “Oh Radha, Radha, what a devotee was Radha. She was always looking for Krishna, always talking about Krishna ,always thinking about Krishna. There was not a moment that Krishna was not in her mind, in consciousness. She was always looking for Him, singing to Him. Even when she slept, she had no other dream but about Krishna. What a wonderful devotee was Radha." Seeing Swami in such bliss, I knew he was talking about relationship he himself Had with Radha. Here was Sai Krishna! I thought, “Swami, I ‘d love to be like that.” Unfortunately, that the world is distracting, I wondered could we fill ourselves only with Swami like the gopis had with Krishna? Can we be so much in love with Swami that all other thoughts and feelings just melt away and have no more power on us? I know can happen; it happened the first time when Swami came to me personally, in response to my pain and gave me two small pieces of candy. This inner experience exists and is more real than the outer world and know that Swami’s love can bring it alive. Swami gives us instructions on how to keep our minds focused on GOD. Our practice should not be not too much and not too little. People with obsessive Disposition might try too hard and then falter; lazy people might not try enough and hence not advance. It is like shaving with straigh razor. Press too hard and you Will get cut, press too lightly and nothing happens,” says Sai Baba. . The Gift of Sight and Light : How Bhagawan restored Dr. Ravi Kumar’s eyesight, twice! This is the story of how Bhagawan restored the eyesight of Dr. Ravi Kumar, twice! Dr. Ravi Kumar is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry in the Brindavan Campus of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning. He came to Swami decades ago as a young boy and ever since then has been with Swami, first as a student and now as a teacher in Bhagawan's College. His entire family is greatly devoted to Bhagavan, and all of them have had many thrilling experiences. In 1985, while engaged in some experiments in the chemistry laboratory, hot acid splashed into Ravi Kumar's eyes and he became blind. Here, in his own words, is the story of how Swami restored his eyesight: ‘It was July 1985. I had by now enrolled for the Ph.D degree, and busy with my research. One morning, I was working in the lab when the lunch bell was given. A fellow-student asked me, "Are you not coming for lunch? Not immediately, " I said adding, "I shall finish this experiment and then come. You go ahead." I was trying to detect steroids on a thin layer plate. For this, it was necessary to prepare a special reagent by mixing acetic anhydride and concentrated sulphuric acid. Even as I was busy doing this, there was a sudden explosion and the next thing I knew was that the chemical I was preparing had splashed into both my eyes. I shouted 'Sai Ram’. Hearing my cry, a few students were still in the neighbourhood, came running towards me. They anxiously asked, "What happened?" I just cried out, "Take me to the nearest tap please!" My eyes were just burning and the pain was terrible. There was no water in any of the taps in the lab. (Later I learnt that the water line had been closed for doing some plumbing work for the library building that was just then coming up) By the time my friends found a tap with water flowing, the acid mixture must have burnt my eyes for nearly two minutes. My eyes were washed continuously; meanwhile I discovered that I could not see anything. "Let's go and see the doctor," said my colleague who was helping me. So saying, he took me to the General Hospital which, in those days, was adjacent to the Ashram. When we went there and explained the problem, the duty nurse said, "What a time to come! Our (only) eye-specialist, Dr. Wamsa, has gone away to get her visa extended." My heart sank as the nurse examined me, tut-tutted and said, "I suggest you go to Bangalore... " I did not go to Bangalore but instead went for [afternoon] Darshan, of course assisted by my friend. I could not see anything. Everyone was waiting silently for Bhagawan to come out. There was no Darshan music those days, and I did not know whether Swami had come out or not. It was then my friend whispered, "Swami has just come out.... He has turned to the left .... He is now on the ladies side ...... Now He has come towards the gents side..... He is approaching us...." I could hear the rustle of silk as the Lord passed by me; I was utterly miserable even as I thought, "How unlucky I am not to be able to see the Beloved Face...." And then suddenly I heard Swami's enchanting voice. He was saying, "Take this Vibhuti Prasadam for three days, and everything will be alright." With these words, He placed three packets of Vibhuti in my hand. The world was absolutely dark. I was looking forward to the end of the third day. I had the last dose of Vibhuti even as the night prayer was being said in the Hostel. I still could not see. I could not control my tears as I recalled all my hopes and aspirations. I was just four and a half years old when I lost my mother, and since then, I was literally brought up by Swami. I had been eagerly looking forward to serving Swami after completing my studies but here I was, blind and dependent on someone else. Was this to be my fate for the rest of my life? I was totally shattered and literally cried myself to sleep. The next thing I knew was that someone was knocking the door of my room. I said, "Please come in." I turned and saw [without actually realising it then] that one of my students had brought coffee for me. I said, "Oh, it is you Sridhar. Have you brought coffee?' The boy exclaimed, "Sir! You can see!!" That was when I realised what had actually happened. Overwhelmed, I said, "Yes, I can see clearly!" During Darshan that morning, Swami came straight to me and asked, "How are your eyes?" I had no words to offer. My eyes took over and washed His Feet with tears. As I looked up with misty eyes, Swami said, "Go to Bangalore and get yourself a pair of spectacles. Always wear them in the lab; and be careful the next time!" I got myself a pair of spectacles, and took great care to wear them as commanded. Four years passed. I was in the lab and engaged in an important experiment. Suddenly, my spectacles slipped, fell down and broke. I could not afford to stop my experiment; if I did, it would mean that the work of the past two months would all go waste. So I decided to continue with my experiment, telling myself that I would be very careful. I prepared some hot chromic acid, poured it into a sintered funnel, and, to finish the work quickly, connected the system to a vacuum aspirator - it was a brand new machine that had just arrived from Japan. Nothing happened for a while, so it seemed. I went near the apparatus to have a close look, and just then the flask imploded, tipping about 30 cc of hot chromic acid into my eye. There it was, the second time! I shouted 'Sai Ram'. The acid streamed down my face on to my shirt, eating it up. I was assisted to a nearby tap (this time, the tap was mercifully not dry!), and water was continuously splashed on my eyes and face. Even after 45 minutes of washing, the burning sensation was just unbearable.’ Once more Dr.Ravi Kumar was taken to the same General Hospital - this time the doctor was there but there was precious little she could do except to bandage the two blind eyes. Then … ‘As I sat for afternoon Darshan with my bandaged eyes, many thoughts raced through my mind. "Had not Swami warned me clearly and explicitly? Why on earth did I have to disobey His command? What would He say now? Would He be angry with me? Am I, after all, destined to be blind all my life?" There was a hush. I knew Swami had come out to give Darshan. I could now feel His presence near me. And then I heard His sweet voice, "Ravi, what happened?" Even as I tried to get up, He patted my cheek and said, "I told you to be careful the next time, did I not? Careless, careless! Here, hold out your hand." As I stretched my hand, He gave me some Vibhuti that He had materialised and said, "Eat this Vibhuti; Swami will always protect you; everything will be fine." I ate the Vibhuti with much relief and joy. What an assurance it was to hear from the Divine Himself that everything would be all right! The following day, I went to the doctor to have the dressing changed. She removed the bandage, examined me and exclaimed with wonder, "Sai Ram! What a miracle!! Your eyes are perfectly OK!" Yes, everything was fine exactly as Bhagavan had said the previous day, and I could see clearly once more”. Reference: “Love All Serve All” published by Sathya Sai Publications of New Zealand. Page: 302-304 ------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -------- The Magic of The Lord’s Blessing A dumb and lame child is miraculously cured Mr. Russi Patel, a Parsi from Mumbai, had an experience connected to his little daughter’s health that was nothing short of a miracle. Howard Murphet had the opportunity to met him personally and here is what Murphet records: At Prasanthi Nilayam in 1967 I met Mr. Russi C. Patel, a Parsi of Bombay, and his wife. From them I learned the story of their little daughter, Ketu. At the age of 2½ years Ketu could not speak, walk or even stand. She had been given various kinds of medical treatment, including modern drugs and physiotherapy. But nothing seemed to have any effect. The source of the trouble was a mystery. Some thought it was a matter of mental retardation, others said that it was some unknown deep-seated nerve trouble. This was the state of affairs in February 1965 when Mr.Patel decided to go to Puttaparti and see Bhagawan. His wife, who was a very orthodox Parsi, was not in favour of the idea, thinking it a waste of time and money. Shivaratri festival was on when Mr. Patel arrived at the ashram and huge crowds were there. Although people urged him to seek an interview, he was diffident about doing so – especially as he felt that Baba knew all about his trouble and why he had come, without being told. Several times he wrote a note, intending to hand it to Baba as the latter passed through the crowd near him, but each time, when he saw the little figure with the luminous face, full of the light of understanding, he decided that it was not necessary and tore the letter up. "When Baba wants me, He will call me," Patel said to his friends. But the days passed and he was not called. Streams of people were going in to see the great saint, but not Patel. Then one morning, some days after the Lingodbhavam, it was announced that there would be no more personal interviews. However, Baba came onto the balcony and gave His blessings to all visiting devotees assembled there before they went home. Mr. Patel felt the great compassion pour onto the crowd and into his own heart. Yet, in the train on the homeward journey his faith and spirits sank to a low level. He thought of the days he had spent there and the chances of speaking to Baba he had missed. He thought of his poor little daughter still unable to stand or utter a word. He imagined his wife's reproaches about the time and money he had wasted. He arrived at the door of his home very depressed indeed. When he opened the door, the first sight that met his gaze was little Ketu, who could not even stand when he left, walking down the hallway to meet him, calling out "Daddy, Daddy!" He picked her up and embraced her; then he embraced his wife, while both of them wept with joy over the miracle that had somehow taken place. On checking the facts with his wife Mr. Patel found that Ketu had first begun to walk and speak on the day before he arrived home – just after Sai Baba had given his blessings from the balcony to the assembled devotees. Some time afterwards Mr. Patel took his wife and daughter to see Baba when the latter was on a visit to Bombay (now Mumbai). In the midst of the many thousands that crowd around him in that metropolis, Sai Baba saw them, and in the words of Mr. Patel, "greeted the little girl as if she was an old friend returned after a long absence". He took her on His lap; materialised some Vibhuti, and put it in her mouth. Soon after that, her speech improved greatly and she began using longer words. Captain Jagdish Oberoi retired as General Manager, Commercial, Indian Airlines. A devotee of Bhagawan for many years, he settled down in Prasanthi Nilayam after retirement and Bhagawan gave him the opportunity to serve as the Aerodrome Officer in the Sri Sathya Sai Airport, Puttaparthi for many years. A lover of music, Captain Oberoi, used to sing Ghazals, a form of music popular in North India. He was advised by Swami to sing Bhajans. Towards the end of 1981, he developed a severe throat problem. Diagnosis showed it to be throat cancer. Oberoi came to Bangalore and found that Swami was flying from Bangalore to Hyderabad. Oberoi joined Swami on the flight. Capt. Oberoi describes what happened next: During the flight, Swami called me and asked me to sit beside Him. When I was seated, Swami asked me about my health. I replied, "Swami is Antaryami , and He knows my problem." Tears came to my eyes; I was moved. Swami wiped my tears and said, "I know, but I want you to tell Me. It will lighten your burden when you talk about it." I then told Him that the ENT specialist had diagnosed my ailment as throat cancer. Swami called for a glass of drinking water. He then materialized a blackish powder, dropped the powder into the glass, stirred the water with a spoon, and then gave the water to me to drink. The taste was very bitter but I drank it all. Swami then rubbed the remainder of the black powder on His finger-tips and then on my throat. It was very soothing. The pain disappeared immediately, and the hitherto uncontrollable cough was almost gone! Swami then asked me to consult Dr. Kameswar in Madras and get a second opinion about my problem. I pleaded that since I was now feeling better, I didn’t need to go through another painful physical examination. But, Swami insisted and said, "Apne Swami ka agya palan karo aur second opinion lo [Listen to the command of your Swami and seek a second opinion]". Oberoi went back to Madras and consulted Dr. Kameshwar, who after examination confirmed there was no trace of cancer - Swami had already cancelled it. So he came early morning and he was about to jump into the Ganges, when some one shouted in his ear, “Don’t jump” “Don’t jump” Don’t die, come to Puttapathi.” He could not resist because voice was hitting him like anything. This man had heard from his mother. He went railway station nearby and purchased a ticket to Bangalore. He told prof later, that he could not sleep in the train and could not think of anything except Puttaparthi. He said when the wheels of train were moving he could hear “Puttaparthi! Puttaparthi! And when the train moved slowely the it sound Putta-parthi, Puttaparthi!. He reaced Bangalore, and he wanted to purchase a ticket to Penukonda. But the clerk at the counter knew that he was going to Penukonda only to go to Puttaparthi to see Swami, So the man told him “Why are you going to Puttaparthi your Baba is here in Whitefield. But , it was Puttaparthi which was resounding in his ear all through. So he said”I want to do to Puttaparthi, please give me a ticket tp Penukonda. He reached Penukonda, and from there he came to Puttaparthi. Swami who was in Whitefield, suddenly arrived in Puttaparthi on the same day at 6.30 in the evening. Kutumba Rao ran upto him and all. They asked Swami why he had come without information. Then Swami said No he had come to take a few bags of rice to Bangalore for summer course! Prof and others were surprised , why should Swami Himself comes to take few bags of rice? He could have sent someone or even a phone call would have been enough. All were wonwering why He had to come! There must be some reason. Next morning this man Arvind was in Darshan line. Swami said “Yeh! Calcutta” and asked him to go into the interciew and chided him. “What is foolish thing you have done? Do you know the feeling of your mother and wife? I will see that nothing happens to you. I will also see that you are transferred. You need not go back to calcutta. There is a branch office of your company in Madrass and I will see you are transferred to Madrass so that you will be nearer to your place. Swami told him that He would go back to Whitefield and asked him to stay here for nine days. Why nine days ? Swami had other plans! This man Arvind was left with very little money which would be in two days, He had to stay 9 days and wanted money. So he sent a telegram to his friend in Delhi, asking him to send money, giving address as “Arvind, Big Shed, Prashanti Nilayam.” The mother and wife not knowing what happened to him or where he was, were in anxiety and agony. That friend in Delhi who received his telegram for money, immediately informed the mother that he was in Puttaparthi in the Big shed. Within those nine days mother, wife, others came here. That was Swami’s stragegy of informing mother and wife. They were very happy to see him here. Prof heard the whole story from his mother and wife. So, pray to Him in any language, or put a letter anywhere, He will know because He is everywhere. Sai Ram --------- Swami's foot steps as I walk with you... .. AVATRA'S WORDS *You are like the apple of the eye, My eye will be there to watch over you and guard you. Have Dhoopam and scent-sticks for the Puja, and I smell them. I answer to whatever Name you use; I respond to whatever request you make with a pure heart and a sanctified motive.**..... The essential purpose of all this Leela is Anandam...... This is one way of announcing the Divinity of the Avatara, which has to be done so that men may listen and obey. The common man will sit up in wonder and his awe will ripen into faith; later, even if he starts discriminating and arguing pros and con, the Avatar will only be glad, for the faith will thus be confirmed...... Swami's nature is Viswaprema, you have known, and Bhagavatham is the story of Viswaprema. ***I declare that I am in everyone, in every being. So do not hate anyone, or cavil at anyone. Spread Prema always, everywhere. That is the best way of revering Me. Do not seek to measure Me or evaluate Me. I am beyond your understanding. Pray or worship for your own satisfaction and contentment. But to say that I will respond only if I am called for that I will save only if I am thought of is wrong. Have you not heard the declaration."Sarvathah paani paadam?" (Hands and feet everywhere) You can hear My Footsteps, for, I walk with you, behind you, beside you. When you cry out in agony, "Don't you hear my heart's plaint? Have you become so stonyhearted?" My ear will be there to listen. Ask that I should protect****The Avatara has come in order to guard the world and to strengthen Dharma as the means of guarding it. Books that contain the Lord's words and great men who know them, declare that the Lord assumes Human Form in order to carry out these purposes...... Avatars choose the time and the mode of announcement of their Advent and their Glory. Even in this Avatara, such miracles had to be done when I decided that the time was opportune for taking the people into My Secret.*****..... The Lord is all Prema. He has no anger or Dwesha in Him.Once at Shirdi, a certain man came with much suffering, and he prayed that he might be given ten births with the chance of dividing the pain into ten parts, so that he could suffer a little each time and payoff his Karmic debt, without being hard put to it having to pay it all off in one! He was informed through Kaka Saheb that he should fall at the feet of Baba and as he did so, Baba got the pain transferred to himself. For ten minutes, Baba suffered, at the rate of one minute for each Janma, and thus he rid _ of his obligation.Baba was quite normal, as soon as the 10 minutes were over. - Sai BabaSource: * Prashanti Nilayam 7.9.1963** Thamo Gunam - Thapo Gunam SSS Vol III*** The SAI AVATARA - Prashanti Nilayam 2.9.1963**** Su-Darsana SSS VOL:II***** Vishaya, the Visha SSS Vol ------------------ KOBE CENTER-PADUKA STORY-DIVINE BLESSINGS OF OUR LORD. The Story Of The Padukas By: Ram Chugani Once again the divine mother was merciful in summoning us to Puttaparthi, the valley of peace. On reaching Puttaparthi, we had our first Darshan of Baba. The feeling of freshness and peace percolated in our beings. However we were thinking of carrying the blessings of Swami in some form to our brothers and sisters in Kobe. We were to stay in Puttaparthi for five days and we were anxious to do the task in some way. While passing through a shop, our thoughts were directed towards a shop selling Silver Padukas. Our idea was to implant Bhagavan Himself in those Padukas and carry it to Kobe. Our eyes met as He signalled to me. At once I managed to get up hurriedly with the tray with the Padukas as it was very heavy and doubled my pace towards Him. The hitch was as to how to bring Padukas inside the building, the veranda, for blessings. Hence I met the chief volunteer and explained to him about the 29th anniversary of the Kobe centre and that we wished to take Bhagavan's blessings through the Padukas as well as to hand over a letter to Him.The Volunteer replied that even passing over letters to Swami had become difficult, however he assigned a place for me in the veranda. I sat there waiting eagerly with the Padukas placed on a silver tray closed with a cover of Sai Ram.Swami gave darshana in a golf car and headed straight to the veranda. Our eyes met as He signalled to me. At once I managed to get up hurriedly with the tray with the Padukas as it was very heavy and doubled my pace towards Him. I produced the letter to Him and opened the cover of the tray. Swami blessed the Padukas. I felt very grateful about His compassion and blissful for having become the instrument to carry Bhagavan's blessings to the devotees in Kobe. The Padukas bearing the blessings of Sai Ram will always stay in Kobe for the blessings of the fellow devotees. I request the devotees to accept this humble offering bearing Sai Ram's blessings. This is just a small gesture from my side in abiding by the words of Sai that we should constantly engage ourselves in serving others. HELP EVER...HURT NEVER...LOVE ALL,,,SERVE ALL. Provided your intellect is sharp and free from prejudices and predilections, the reality will reveal itself to you in a flash, for it is quite a simple thing. Only, it must be capable of seeing the problem in its basic essence, apart from all the jumble of irrelevancies. Once a very learned Pundit was holding forth, in a very pedantic manner, the story of Gajendramoksha from the Bhagavatha, before the Maharaja in his Durbar Hall, and a large gathering of courtiers. He described how the Lord, on hearing the agonised call for succour from the elephant held by the jaws of the monstrous crocodile, hurried from Heaven (Vaikunta) without stopping even to collect His insignia and weapons, without even intimating to His Consort where He was going nor on what mission. Suddenly the Maharaja interrupted him with the question. ---------------------------- KOBE CENTER PROGRAMS Kobe Center Place : l.S.S. 2nd Fl. 1-3, Kumochi 5-chome, Chuo-ku, Kobe (Tel: 078-222-1885) Home Page MAP Bhajans Bhajan Practice Study Circle every Sun 4:00-5:00pmevery Thur 7:30-830pm 1st,5th Sun 2:00-3:40pm 2nd Sun 2:00-3:20pm3rd,4th Sun 2:30-3:40pm every Thur 7:00-7:20pm 2nd Sun 5:30-6:30pm (English)4th Sun 5:30-6:30 (Japanese) 2nd Sun 3:40-3:55 (Gayatri Chanting) Ladies Programme 3rd,5th Sun 5:30-6:30pm Youth Programme 3rd Sun 0:30-2:20pm 2nd Sun in odd months 5:30-6:15pm(Study Circle)1st Sun in even months 0:30-1:50 Seva Aisei-en (Orphanage home): 3rd Sun 9:30-11:30amNarayana Seva: 2nd,4th Sun 10:00-11:30am, 1st, 3rd Thur 9:00-10:00pm Veda Club Veda clup is held on every 4th Sunday after Bhajans.
