Sri Sai Baba's Mahasamadhi

(We deem it a great privilege in

reproducing a message sent to Sri Sai Samaj and its

devotees by His Holiness Swami Sivananda Saraswathi Maharaj, Founder-President of the Divine Life Society Rishikesh, years ago on the eve other Maha

Samadhi Day Celebrations of Sri Sai Baba. It is remarkable that the message to

the devotees is so eternal that it has served as a Jilting upadesh

to those who have taken part in the 26th Ail India Sai Devotees Convention and

the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Sri

Sai Samaj, Bangalore.)

The Saints and godly men are blissful children of the Divine

Mother sent in need to the earth of man to radiate Her Divine Light and show

the way to perfection and bliss by leading the divine life of selflessness

devotion, meditation and self-realisation. One such

blessed divine soul of the great Mother we have in Sri Sai Baba. Even the

manner of his Maha Samadhi is highly significant and

symbolic. He has cast away his mortal form and entered his Infinite spiritual

nature or swaroopa upon the Vijaya

Day, i.e., the day of victory thus signifying, that, to transcend the Nama Rupa and attain Satchidananda, is the ultimate victory to be aspired for.

His Maha Samadhi significantly synchronizes with the

celebration of the 'Seemollanghan' or the crossing of

the border observed in the Maharashtra country. It

symbolizes the transcending of the barriers of relative existence and attains

the grand experience of the Absolute.

Thus you first remember that in the very manner of his Maha Samadhi Sri Sai Baba symbolized in the supreme ideal

of the ultimate goal, the goal our life as god-realisation.

Go beyond the limits of phenomenal life and attain the limitless experience of

the Sachidananda.

Beloved aspirants! Awaken to this inspiring message. Go beyond the

limits of sorrow and attain the eternal bliss. The action of this great soul

upon the eve of his Maha Samadhi during the last

moments of his earthily life, is a divine object lesson to one and all. Sai

Baba did not cast away his mortal coil and his physical body lying in bed.

Instead, towards the end, he sat up and expressed a desire to do charity by

offering Dhana and sending for a devotee he offered

to her nine rupees and soon entered into Maha

Samadhi. He fulfilled by this most significant act, the loving dictum of dharma

-'Paropakaram idam shareeram.' He also taught " Be to the very last breath

ceaselessly engaged in thoughts of doing good to

others. Thus through his Maha Samadhi this great

God-Man, showed you both the supreme goal of life as also the way of attaining

it namely, by living a life of Self-realisation,

ceaseless service and paropakara unto all His

creatures. To ever give oneself up for the welfare of others is the pathway to

Saint-hood and self-realisation.

I congratulate the Sai Samaj of Bangalore for working

with Devotion to keep alive the spirit of this great personality and his loving

Upadesh. I rejoice that this spiritual association,

this Sai Samaj has completed years of spiritual work

and propagation of the divine ideals. May the grace of the Divine Mother be

upon you all. May the blessings of Sri Sai Baba be

upon you all. May the Ashirvad

of God and Guru bestow upon you all health, long Life, prosperity and Kaivalya Moksha!
