Before I start let me introduce myself. This is Anand Koti, founder of Colorss Foundation. The foundation works towards the mainstream integration of the marginalized population through psychological, social and professional training and rehabilitation. Through the broad spectrum of its goal, the foundation handles various disability issues.Our registered head office is in Vadodara, Gujarat. Presently we are focusing on the launch of the currency denominator for visually impaired people. Project Iris: Currency denominator for visually impaired people:This device is the winner of is the winner of IRIS 2006 Initiative for Research and Innovation in Science IRIS - 2006 held at IIT, Delhi. IRIS is a collaborative effort by Intel, Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Brief synopsis of the survey carried out with the strong support of CII Kolkatta and other organization working among VI. According to the national survey, around 69% of the visually impaired population goes shopping directly. More than 63% of the populations are involved in monetary transactions on a daily basis. 25% feel they are being cheated while dealing in monetary transactions, while more than 30% do not trust people/shop vendors. 72% feel the need to have a device in hand to identify currency. Of the study sample, 86% are willing to trust and buy the device, while 83% feel that the device will empower them and enhance self confidence. Project 'Iris' will be conducted in two phases, Phase I is to empower visually impaired (VI) masses with the currency indicator device. It is imperative to note that the device is simple and easy-to-use and does not require any prior training for its usage. Phase II of the project is to have an education program for the visually impaired population those who are using the device and the probable VI those would have the benefit of the program. This education program is highly essential to help them motivate, find their innate skills and enrich them. So that it encourages them for a self sufficient life. This holistic project is intended to make to them self sufficient through education and vocational training. Phase II is an attempt to train VI help manufacture the product, thus generating employment opportunities for them. I have attached the presentation and the required documents for further consideration. We are looking forward to see if there is anyway this project can be taken ahead.
