SRI

SAI BABA –OUR SAVOUR – BY SRI A.S. SUBRAMANIAN

Sri Sai Baba is being

looked upon by numerous devotees not as a great saint, but as an Avatar, as the

Creator, Preserver and Destroyer. Let us make a study of His life and see how

Baba acts as the Guardian Angel.

It has been said in Bhagavat

Gita that one who does not save a person from

death-physical or spiritual (i.e. Samsara) is not a

Guru, father, mother, God husband nor kinsman. Just as Lord Krishna has said in

Bhagavat Gita, “ If one devotes his entire mind to me and rest in me,

he need fear nothing for body and soul. If one perpetually thinks of me and

makes me his sole refuge, I am his debtor and will give my head to save

him.” So also Sri Sai has given in repeated words the following assurance

to his devotees: -

“I am ever living

to help and guide all who come to me, who surrender to me who seek refuge in

me.

:If you cast your burdens on me, I shall surely

bear it,”

Baba, a Dharmatma Satyasandascha, never

spoke out anything but the truth. Some instances from his life proving his

parental kindness and vigilence in guarding the life,

health and interests of his devotees are given below.

When the worship of Baba

with sandal paste by Hindus enraged the Muslims as desecration of the mosque

and when they resolved by force to stop the puja,

Baba invited Mahalsapathy to come near him and

worship him as usual and defied orthodoxy to use its force. Certain took a

grave risk for there were a use its force. Certainly

Baba took a grave risk for there were a large number of Muslims watching with

clubs in their hands.

On another occasion, Baba

offered his throat for cutting when some Muslim fanatics wanted to put a stop

to this kind of worship by murdering all Hindus approaching Baba.

There are innumerable

instances of Baba’s facing disease to save his children, the devotees,

Baba on one occasion said, “ I will not allow my

devotees to come to harm. I have to take thought for my devotees. And if a devotee

is about to fall I stretch out my hands thus and with four and four hands at

time, I support him. I will not let him fail.”

Does not Baba save the

life of Nana Sahib Chandorkar from the accident that

befell him while driving a tonga

near Poona? Does not the all

knowing Baba send in time Udhi to Nana for his

daughter’s use when she needed help and protection? As he said once, “ Whatever you do, wherever you may be, ever bear this

in mind that I am always aware of everything you do”. He know the difficulties of his children and runs to their

rescue just as Vishnu ran to the help of Gajendra and

Sri Krishna to Droupathi.

Once questioned by a

Commissioner about his race, religion and profession Sai Baba answered that he

was Parvardigar in religion engaged in bestowing Duva, i.e. blessings. His entire lifetime was devoted to

the showering of blessings and although Sai Baba has cast off his material

body, His response to his devotees is just the same as it was when living and

this has been testified by the experiences of thousands of devotees who go to

him.

Let us take refuge in Him

and get His blessings for four fold Purushartha of

life, Dharma, Artha, Kama

and Moksha.
