Sairam,

Happy BABA's day to you all. BABA bless us always and guide us in all aspects of life. May all our actions be governed by HIM. May we live the life HE taught us to lead.

Humans are called as social beings. We seemed to have made up a complex web of rules - one rule that we practice at home, and another rules for living in the society. When we sit and think, it is like we are almost living two different lives. The life we potray when with others is different to what we are at home, almost like Jakyl and Hyde. Why such disparity in our standards of living? As children of BABA, we have to live the life HE taught us to lead. There is no point in praying to Him and calling ourselves HIS children and potray a picture of purity, piousness, and humility to the public whilst behaving obnoxiously towards family and friends and causing grief, trauma and stress through actions to people around us. This discription fits most of us, come to think of it, we lead a double standard life, as a result loose peace of mind, are always stressed, we do things to please others. If we are honest to ourselves - we know that the only person we have to please is BABA and if He is happy with our actions rest will fall in place.

There are many of us who call ourselves children of BABA, and yet hurt others through our narrow mindedness, small thinking, superstition, and cruelty. We live a life of pretence while we engage in gossip, slander, and ill will and feeling. We all are guilty of these actions and thoughts, the difference being only in degree. If we really love BABA, then let us live the life HE showed to us. Let us carry Him in our heart, let us not care about what we want the world to see in us. when we go to the temple it should be to pray with humility and respect not to please other people or make a point to others that we are religious too. When we serve people it should be with the humbleness, and gratitude that BABA gave us opportunity to serve HIM, not with pride or haughtiness or with thought of looking down upon others. Do not impose unwanted superstition on others in the name of religion only to add to others grief. Customs are man made as a means of discipline, but cruelty of man has made them appauling and even educated indulge in slander and insulting other woman in the name of religion. Remember, those who love BABA, Show HIS divine qualities of love, kindness, understanding empathy. Do we really love BABA or are we putting on a show to please the people around us? What BABA wants is simplicity, humbleness, love, and inner feelings not external show.

People come and go based on their needs - however close they may be, but it is only BABA who is always with us in life and death. Let us please HIM and be true to HIM.

"Naradiya Kirtan-Paddhati

Generally our Haridasas, while performing the Kirtan, wear a gala and full dress. They put on a head-dress, either a pheta or a turban, a long flowing coat with a shirt inside, an uparane (short dhotar) on the shoulders and the usual long dhotar from the waist below. Dressed in this fashion for some Kirtan in the Shirdi village, Dasganu once went to bow to Baba. Baba asked him - "Well, bridegroom! where are you going dressed so beautifully like this?" 'For performing a Kirtan' was the reply. Then Baba said - "Why do you want all this paraphemalia-coat, uparani and pheta etc, doff all that before Me, why wear them on the body?" Dasganu immediately took them off and placed them at the Baba's Feet. From that time Dasganu never wore these things while performing the Kirtan. He was always bare from waist upwards, a pair of `chiplis' was in his hand and a garland round his neck. This is not in consonance with the practice generally followed by all the Hardidasa, but this is the best and the purest method. The sage Narada, from whom the Kirtan-Paddhati originated, wore nothing on his trunk and head. He carried a 'veena' in his hand, and wandered from place to place everywhere singing the glory of the Lord. "Chapter 15 Satcharita
