Guest guest
Patience... the greatest accomplisher - H.H. Swami Sharanananda Very often we hear the word ZERO PATIENCE. It means no tolerance for another person's mistakes but complete forgiveness for our own, no matter how wrong they may be. Generally this value is practiced as per one's own convenience. However, according to our scriptures PATIENCE is an eternal value, to be followed at all times and in all situations. To an individual without patience, one second will be akin to one year. As a result the individual feels restless. If an expected result does not materialize in his/her imagined time frame, the person either quits or gets frustrated. Some times people brand themselves a failure and go into depression or even try to end their lives. Without patience they truly become "patients". Patience is a value that allows one to accept any situation with equanimity. A patient mind remains unaffected by the worries of the past, anxiety for the future and excitement in the present. It assumes a pure state of awareness that is beyond all disturbances. In spite of our best efforts things happen in their own time and their own way. Human beings have no control over it. When one understands this simple truth and surrenders to the will of God then one discovers infinite patience within, and becomes very effective in handling all situations smilingly. Ten years of time goes by like ten seconds. This was seen in the case of Shabari, the great devotee of Lord Rama in Ramayana. Though Shabari had to wait for years and years to get Lord Rama's darshan, she did it with full devotion, as per the advise of her Guru Matanga Muni. She did not complain to Lord Rama for the long wait. Rather her heart was filled with joy unspeakable when she met Him. The long wait passed like a flash. That's why it is rightly said that "PATIENCE IS A BITTER PLANT BUT IT HAS A SWEET FRUIT". Let us all develop patience like Shabari and become worthy of receiving the blessings of the Lord and Guru.
