All in the service of the Lord..... - H.H. Swami Tejomayananda (excerpts from swamiji's writings and lectures) What is 'true worship' ? The Lord being omnipresent, all-pervasive, whatever be the experience of the beings and things of the universe, can only be the experience of the Lord. When such an understanding and love fills our being for all the beings and things of the universe, service or seva follows naturally, and service with this attitude is true worship. To worship the Lord, some special or particular action need not be undertaken. Our duty (svadharma) according to our position and status in life can be done with the thought that by our knowledge, talents, strength etc. we are serving the Lord alone. An engineer need not take up a tree planting programme or a

slum-clearance drive to show his concern for the society and his devotion to the Lord. But if in an attitude of worship he utilises his knowledge in the construction of a bridge, then such service is also the worship of the Lord. Many times, it so happens that events occur and then we feel we have been cheated? "In life we get what we deserve and not what we desire". Have faith that we get what we deserve and that the Lord is not partial. He shows no favouritism. He who serves, deserves. Faith is that whatever happens, it is the right thing one needed to learn from. One may not immediately understand the gain though but having done your best, accept whatever comes with joy. The entire nature is governed by the Lord only, have faith in the result and goodness of God. How do we discover the true dharma that God had meant for us, and once we realise it, how do we fulfill it without becoming distracted or consumed by other responsibilities in life, like one's spouse, house, etc.? There is only one dharma we have got and that is to purify our mind by rendering service to the society as worship of God. Whether you are householder,

professional or businessman-wherever your work - even though from the worldly standpoint this will be called a family responsibility, official responsibility or organisational responsibility as far as your attitude is concerned, you should think of it as Divine responsibility. "It is only for God that I am doing it". Then even if the family members are not happy, it is their problem. You are doing your best, because you are serving sincerely, selflessly and doing it as worship of the Lord. This is dharma. Duties and responsibilities come to you unasked, go on fulfilling them. Perform the duties and responsibilities according to your age or station in life and utilise your special talents - all in the service of God.
