WHO ARE WE TO JUDGE? “The virtues were overlooked; and only the criticism was recounted on all sides.” - Shri Sai Samartha Satchritra, Ch. 19, Verse 190.` Aristotle was taking a stroll, accompanied by a few friends. They were accosted by a poor man, who appealed to them for charity. The man was known to have a bad reputation. Aristotle gave alms to the poor man. This met with the disapproval of his friends. “You should not have helped him,” observed one of them. “You know his reputation. Why do you encourage such people?” “I did not offer my charity to the man,” explained the great philosopher. “I gave it to humanity.” Who are we to judge the worth of needy ones?
