Guest guest
SAI RAM Dear Brothers and Sisters, This humble self has received a few personal mails from some members containing requests to shed more light on " Karma " . Hence this submission. 'Karma' is a word from the Samskrit language. It has been derived from the root 'kru' which means'to do'. Thus the literal meaning of 'Karma' is action or deed. 'Karma' is also being used by many to denote Destiny. By karmaphala we mean effect. Karma comprises the cycle of cause and effect. Simply put, Karma is the sum total of what the jiva ( individual) has done, is doing and will do and their concomitant reactions. Present and future experiences are effects of past deeds. Karma makes one accountable for his life. According to the Hindu and other religions which talk of rebirth, Karma extends not only through the present life but also through past and future lifes. The Doctorine of Karma is an integral part of Hinduism. Action and reaction governs all lives. Karma is not fate, as man acts with free will and creates his own destiny. Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba says, " If you sow Goodness, you will reap Goodness. If we sow evil,we will reap evil " . Conquest of Karma lies in intelligent and detached action and dispassionate reaction. It needs to be understood that all karmas do not rebound immediately. Some Karmas show their reaction in this very birth itself. Others accumulate and return unexpectedly in this or future births. To my humble mind, the Law of Karma is a Spiritually- oriented Law that can not be abrogated by any person but can be mitigated or modified by God,the Karmaphaladhata(dispenser of effects of causes). It needs to be clearly understood that Karma is not punishment or retribution. It is an extended expression of natural acts. The Bagavad Gita sings eloquently on action and also about Nishkamya Karma (selfless action) ie., action without expecting anything in return. Balasubramanian <gbsub1Feb 23, 2007 5:44 PM Some Thoughts On Reincarnation or Rebirth, Karma and Fate or Destiny-9puttaparthy saibaba Sai Ram Dear Brothers and Sisters, Rebirth involves sorrow and suffering. Moreover rebirth by itself is transient in nature. Great souls who have attained perfection and who reach God are no more subjected to rebirth, declares the Lord in Bagavad Gita.( MAM UPETYA PUNAR JANMA DUHKHALAYAM ASASWATAM NAAPNUVANTI MAHATMANAH SAMSIDDHIM PARAMAM GATHAH). The transmigration of an individual soul from one species of life to another under the influence of Karma can not cease till it has attained God. This transmigration is called rebirth. There is no species of life whatsoever which is not full of sorrow and sorrow alone from the time of entering the womb till death. The statement that great souls who have realized God are never reborn indicates that other souls are subject to rebirth. The Lord asserts in the Gita, " MAM UPETYA TU KAUNTEYA PUNARJANMA NA VIDYATE " . It means that for those who reach Me (GOD), there is no rebirth. Why so? The all powerful God, the Supreme Brahman is wholly beyond birth and death. The process of His Avatars is not identical with that of the Jiva or individual soul. God simply enacts the sport of birth in order to draw and attract the mind of His devotees through His divine sports( Leela). The Lord has also stated in the Gita that he who comes to know the truth that Lord`s birth and activities are Divine , in reality goes to HIM on leaving his body. " JANMA KARMA CHA ME DIVYAMEVAM YO VETTHI TATWATAH TYAKTWA DEHAM PUNARJANAM NA ETI MAMAETI SAH ARJUNA " . The point which is of sought to be stressed here is that after death he does not return to this mortal world, but goes to the Lord`s Supreme abode.
