Guest guest Posted July 16, 2009 Report Share Posted July 16, 2009 Gujarat to cash on upcoming total Solar Eclipse on July 22, 2009ETW Staff - MumbaiAs we approach closer to the historic total solar eclipse on July 22, 2009, Gujarat is taking active steps to promote the event in Surat and River Tapi, also known as Surya Nagri and Surya Putri respectively. Speaking to Express TravelWorld, Dr Kishor Rao, principal secretary (Tourism, Civil Aviation, Small Scale Industries, Temples & Endowments), Government of Gujarat commented, "Since this event will only be repeated after 123 years, as a state we are highly keen on converting it into an event-based tourism. The Tourism Corporation of Gujarat is working closely with the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat to educate people and provide logistics for those wishing to see it."The tourism corporation is promoting the concept in Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Shirdi and other cities closer to the state to get a good influx of people.
