Folk arts such as Dollu Kunita, Chitti Mela, Veeragase and Nadaswara were performed by different cultural groups. Baba’s devotees had gathered in large number.Sri Satya Sai Seva Samiti convenor Suresh Babu delivered a lecture on ethics and cultural values, on the occasion of ‘Guru Poornime’ celebrations at sub-jail in Kolar Gold Fields. Addressing the inmates, he said observing ‘Guruvandane’ is necessary in order to preserve and develop our cultural heritage. ‘Guruvandane helps us in moulding our personality and imbibing cultural values,’ he added. A number of programmes was lined up at the various organisations on the auspicious day.The Bharatiya Yugavashistha Brahmananda Sangha organised the closing ceremony of the three-day long Guru Purnima Mahotsav. The festival began on July 5. This was the 19th year of the mahotsav organised by the sangha in Jamshedpur.The festivities began on Sunday with flag hoisting at Brahmalok Dham in Kadma followed by recitation of hymns, spiritual discourses and cultural programmes. About six branches of the sangha from New Delhi, Calcutta, Varanasi, Muzaffarpur and Cuttack took part in the annual mega festival.Each of the branches presented a cultural programme based on spirituality and mythological stories.“Guru Purnima is the celebration of the pious and divine relationship of the Guru and the disciple. Thus it is the time of the year when we get together to celebrate a relationship,†said N.R.K. Nair, the secretary of Bharatiya Yugavashistha Brahmananda Sangha.More than 1,000 disciples of the sangha had gathered in the city to celebrate the occasion to be a part of the festival. About 500 members participated in the festival today. Therefore, we celebrate this day by offering prayers, organising satsang and cultural programmes,†said Gunwant Rai Parikh, the secretary of Prabhu Premi Sangh, Jamshedpur.The Sainath Devasthan Temple at Ghorabandha in Telco also celebrated the day.
