Ashok Gupta Dear Mrs Veena Gupta,  OmSai Ram.  I am an ardent devotee of Baba since last 30+ years and have been reading few chapters of Sai Satcharitra everyday, saying his various prayers, Amrit Vani and doing Sai’s aarti twice daily.  I have a small query which I think you’ll be able to answer.  In one of the topic in Sai Satchartira, Shri Hemadpant talks about  Nam- 'Saptha'. I am keen on doing Nam- 'Saptha' for 7 days . Can you please guide me how and what to do and what are the formalities I need to adopt? There are two ways of Nama Saptah Paarayana. 1. Nama Saptah 2. Akhanda Nama Saptah Saptah = A Week or 7 days. Simple guidelines are as follows Nama Saptah: 1. Can be chanted with any Sai's names or as simple as 'Om Sai' or Sairam or Sai or Om Sai Namo Namah or Baba's Taraka mantra " Om Sai Sree Sai Jaya Jaya Sai " . Nama paraayan can be done within your mind too, doesnt have to be aloud or audible to everyone. Remember ?? Baba asks for only two units(paisa or cents or rupees) from anyone.....Shraddha and Saburi 2. Its advised to chant Sai Nama for a certain set period each day as per your Sankalpa, Will & Strength (ex: 12hrs per day or 9 a.m to 6 p.m or 9:45 am to 12:45 pm...etc..,) ...few short breaks can be taken during aarati timings and for other basic needs, duties & rituals. 3. Its advised to sleep on the floor/mat/chaddar, regulate diet to vegetarian, avoid garlic, Fruits and Milk are the most advisable.....please be noted FASTING was never approved by BABA, dont trouble him by starving yourselves. If you want to FAST but cannot stand hunger, pls break the fast on Baba's name....SAI is our mother too. 4. Prepare some Naivedya to Baba, simple item the best...... If ones financial status doesnt permit a small piece of jaggery (or Sugar) offered whole heartedly means more than a sumptuous meal to baba....Do not beg, steal or borrow to fulfill Baba's pooja rituals....Baba will arrange for everything based on ones sankalpa / dedication. 5. Each day, clean the pooja place, offer diya/lamp, offer some prasad and water...before starting the parayan.Akhanda Nama Saptah Additional to regular nama saptah below are the guidelines to be followed for Akhanda Nama saptah 1. Akhanda Nama Saptah is little different... Its advised to have more than one person to perform this. Akhanda = non-stop.... Nama parayana needs done from finish of Kakad Arati to start of Shej Arati without stopping in between, even during aaratis....multiple people can take turns and fill in for other to avoid breaking the Parayana. 2.Preferably Start Parayan on Thursday to Thursday. They organise Namasaptah. In this they ensure that at any point of time during the week, there is atleast one devotee, who is chanting the name of Lord with Veena around his neck. If one gets tired, he hands over the Veena to other bhakta, who continues the chanting of holy name of the Lord. In this way for full 1 week.
