Guest guest
AUM SAI RAM Dear Sai Family, Some time ago, I posted a text for your kind attention entitled ‘women should develop sahana’. One brother responded and remarked that men also must learn how to develop sahana. Well, it did not take me long to realise how very true was the observation made by that brother. By the Grace of Bhagawan Baba, I was appointed ‘Mahila convener’ of our local Sai centre earlier this month. More than 50% of the Executive members are women. To my utter delight and satisfaction, we all get on very well; we love and respect each other and we would carry out our task of serving Our Lord Sri Baba unhindered if… our male counterparts would stop their bickering. It’s incredible how very much men are not able to work together in a team. So we wonder why Sri Baba said that women must develop sahana pointing a finger at his dear and dear ones. What has changed in our world since 1970 when Sri Baba uttered those memorable words? - Has the world turn upside down?- The only plausible and possible answer is- we, women should learn our lesson because in this Kaliyuga, we must be able to master a situation with utmost calm when we are sitting seemingly on a committee of wise folks where 50% are men, but we are de facto sitting on a time bomb! The earlier text is reproduced for your kind perusal- “Women should develop sahana , the ability to bear defeat, fortitude, forbearance, patience and quiet suffering with no thought of retaliation.” quote- the Divine Words of the Lord of Parthi at the inauguration of the Central Committee of the Mahila Sathsang in Bangalore in 1970. It is important for all women who are grouped in Mahila Vibhag in the different Sai Centres of the World to remember these words and to apply them, though I have to admit that it is not easy. Women, lovely women, of different temperaments, different social background and different upbringing, enthusiastically get together to form the Women Wing in the Sai Organisation with the sole aim to serve the Lord and His children. However, women are extremely individualistic by nature and team work often proves chaotic. Bhagawan Baba reminds us of the Telegu verse- The world shivers before one woman The ocean will dry up, if there are two If they are three, the stars will drop at noon! And adds that this is why women are called the weaker sex. This is a pointer for women to develop sahana; they must make every attempt to accept others’ opinion and to put up with others’ temperaments with sympathy, love and understanding. To conclude, this is a true story I have witnessed. Ten women had gathered in the early hours of the day to prepare a meal for Narayan Seva. Some were chopping the veggies, whilst others were engrossed in the cooking. They were also preparing green peas in a tomato sauce to serve with chapattis. One said “only fresh tomatoes will go in the sauce!” Another said “ only tin tomato” “ No, only puree!” said yet another and each one in turn was adding an ingredient of her liking to the peas in tomato sauce .You can imagine the end result of the concoction which were later served with much Sai Love to the recipients of Sai’s Grace by the adorable Hands of Sai.
