Vibhishana, the supreme devotee of Mahavishnu.

Vibhishana is a rare soul who descended from the Asuric clan. He was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. He pleaded with his elder brother to desist from wrongful confinement of Sita and to restore her back to Shri Rama. Ravana become furious to hear sermons from his younger brother. He shouted at him to shut up. Vibhishana finding that his words do not get into the thick head of Ravana, decided to part ways. He considered surrendering to Shri Rama instead of living under his sinful brother. Hence he reached the camp of Rama but the vanaras were apprehensive about the motive of Vibhishana. They pleaded with Rama not to accept him since he came from enemy's camp and it may be a strategem of Ravana. But Rama persisted and said, I have taken a vow to protect anybody who seek my protection. Even if Ravana retraced his steps and sought my protection, I will accept him.Vibhishana redeemed himself by surrendering to Rama in time. After the war and subsequent to slaying Ravana and his clan, Rama asked Lakshmana to anoint Vibishana as the king of Lanka. This is the effect of contact with the Divine.Sairam.
