Guest guest
Swami on Bhakthi What is devotion? In Sanskrit, the root of the word bhakti is bhaj with suffix ktin. Bhaj means to sing. But to sing what? To sing His name — to sing the glory of God. In fact, bhajan, kirtanam, smaranam and even meditation are various forms of singing His name that purify the mind and connect it with an eternal flow of love for God. This most beautiful state of great attachment, deep love and great reverence aroused from constant bhajan is bhakti or devotion. Bhakti has many stages. Praying to God with an expectation of getting something in return in any form is tamsik bhakti . Performing spiritual practices for one's own growth at spiritual level is called rajsik bhakti. But whenever all attempts are made only to please the Lord for its own sake then it is called parabhakti, ragatmika bhakti, kaevalya bhakti — the culminating point of all spiritual adventures. In this stage, a devotee becomes one with God in boundless joy. He becomes one with God , that is True Bhakti. Om Sai Ram
