Great souls take birth in this world in order to guide the disillusioned human beings towards Divinity. They are rare and infrequent. Buddha is one such soul. He was compassion incarnate. Knowing that his son would become a renunciate if allowed to venture outside, his father guarded him like an apple of an eye. But the inevitable must happen at the appropriate time. In spite of the luxury of palace life, loving wife and son, his mind was disillusioned by the sufferings that he witnessed accidentally. He witnessed death and disease with his own eye. He was not aware of such human fraility before. He learned from others, it is the inevitable part of human life. That spelled the turning part of his life. Surreptiously he squeezed out of the palace, unnoticed by any. He moved away begging his food as a mandicant. He visited many places of wisdom. He sat under many renouned philosophers, He learned Vedas and Sasthras. But nothing could satisfy the hunger of his soul. He practiced penance. Ultimately he attained the state for which he was eager. He realised that all the life as only suffering. He realised that the only way to transcend suffering is to remove the desires from the mind. He realised the Truth and preached the Dharma. Many followed him. A great and grand religion was born. It spread among many rulers in many lands. Hence we have now many countries where Lord Buddha is worshipped. His compassion won him many hearts. The great event of his birth and attainment was celeberated aptly in Prasanthi Nilayam on Vaikasa Pournami day. Sairam.
