The world is a sporting ground for God. He plays for a while with the dolls he made and revert back to His Self. This is how creation, sustenance and anhilation goes on from time immemorial(from yuga to yuga). In the Bagawata Purana, the different periods of Yugas have been enumerated. The periods are mind boggling. There is a large difference between time in human life(duration) and that of "Devas"(celestials). 360 days in human life is equal to a day of Deva loga and an equal amount is the night period of Devas.. In this fashion, the Yugas have been calculated. First Yuga is Sathya Yuga is 4000 Deva years, while 3000 such years constitue Threta Yuga, 2000 years of Deva constitute Dwapara Yuga and 1000 years of Deva constitute the dreaded "Kali Yuga". Hence in human time period the Kali is 4,32,000 years. Is it not mind boggling to know that several such yugas have already elapsed in creation. After the completion of each yuga, there is an overlapping period. After one Chatur yuga, there will be annhilation of the creation and there will be overlap till the next chatur yuga starts. In Bagawata Vahini, Swami has beautifully narrated the time scale in a lucid way. Sairam.
