There was nobody else. They sat in a corner and were engaged in

conversation. Balasaheb was trying to read the day's

newspaper. Then was a serpent, then on his dhoti (cloth). Nobody noticed it. It

was hissing and moving. A servant nearby heard its sound. Soon he brought a

lantern. He shouted " snake, snake " . Balasaheb

was frightened. He started shivering. Shyama too was

petrified. Sticks were brought. The snake started crawling down from the waist

of Balasaheb. They all, together, killed the snake.

This way Baba cautioned in advance and protected Balasaheb.

Nanasaheb Dangle was a great

astrologer. When Bapusaheb Booty came to Shirdi, the

astrologer told him that it was an inauspicious day for him and Dangle had the

danger of death. Bapusaheb was worried. He was shaken

greatly when he went to the Mosque. When he went to the Mosque as usual, Baba

told him, " What does that astrologer say? He says that you are going to

face the danger of death. Don't worry. Don't be afraid. You tell him boldly

that death can't come to you. "

That very evening, when Bapu Sahib went

to the toilet, he found there a cobra. The servant too looked at it.

Immediately he lifted a stone to kill the snake. But the servant was asked by Bapu to leave the stone and bring a stick. Even before the

stick was brought, the cobra vanished. Bapu Sahib

stood there boldly, remembering the assurance of Baba.

Kopergaon was a taluk. In it, there was a village called Korale. In that village, there was a person called Amir Shakkar. He was suffering

from rheumatism. The pain was unbearable. He remembered God and visited Shirdi

to seek Baba's blessing for relief. Sitting in the verandah, Baba said that

such a patient can't afford to visit any cool place. Any other dry place would

cure his ailment. This was the medicine prescribed by Baba. The patient was not

allowed to enter the damp Mosque. He was asked to sit in the dry Chavadi (verandah). That was a great blessing to the

patient. He was able to see Baba walking in the verandah both in the morning

and the evening. Besides, on alternate days, Baba used to sleep in the varandah. Luckily therefore, that patient was able to see

Baba in lose quarters. For nine months, he stayed there and he found it tedious

to live there anymore. One day without telling anybody he returned to his

village. On the way, he went to a choultry. There he

found a fakir on death bed.

(to be contd….)
