Ganapathi is proptiated throughout India as a remover of obstacles. He is worshipped as "Vigna Vinasaka", one who destroy the obstructions. His stomach represent "Gnana" or knowledge or wisdom. It is enough if you worship Lord Ganapathi. It is really amusing to note that the Lord has chosen "mouse" as his vehicle or "vahana". There is a deep significance. The mouse is dark in colour which represents 'ignorance'. He removes the ignorance and hence He is depicted as having his vehicle 'mouse'. We offer a special food to Ganapathi. It is steam boiled "Undralu" prepared from powdered rice mixed with water with salt and boiled in steam. It is good for health. He is the leader of "ganas'. He is very intelligent. He got a mango fruit from the hands of Shiva as a winner in a competition. The competition is between Karthikeya and Ganapathi. Whoever go around the world and come back quickly will get the fruit. Lord Karthikeya has chosen to travel in the peacock and started going round the world whereas Lord Ganesa went round Shiva and Parvathi once. Naturally he understood that Shiva and Parvathi constitute the world. Hence, he was offered the fruit. In Maharashtra, Vinayaka Chaturthi is celebrated with gaity. Sairam.
