Guest guest
It is the eighty second birth anivarsary of the Lord. It is still a wonder, that in this age of communication and internet, only the chosen people visit the Nilayam. In spite of downplaying of the event, even in Indian media, unless Swami Himself wills, nobody can visit Prasanthi Nilayam. The world would have converged in the Nilayam if the Lord choses so. But to the benefits of the gathered devotees, there was no stampade or like that. I used to go to Prasanthi Nilayam during world conference way back in 1975. No body could imagine that the crowd would be so much that Swami decided to come in Helicopter to give Dharsans to the millions of people who crowded in the terraces of all the blocks. No space is left anywhere. Even a few square foot of space in front of the Nilayam was reserved and occupied. I had to practically search every nook and corner for a few feet of sleeping space. Fortunately i could locate one empty space where i can lay without any movement. I think at that time the "Sarva Dharma Aikya Stupa" was inaugurated. Huge lines formed for packet meals and more than 20 counters were opened for distribution of quick meals to the Millions of devoteen gathered. Tents were pitched in front of the Nilayam for the families by themselves. None could imagine that multitudes would gather there. As Swami used to tell often, "No invitation cards were sent" but all gathered due to the Prema or Love towards the Divine. To take Dharsan of the Lord in close quarters during that time is really a great task. Swami innovated newer and newer methods to give Dharsan to all those who gathered there. In the balconies of Auditorium, He used to appear suddenly to satisfy the devotees who longs for His Divine Dharsan. It was a real feast to the eyes, to the ears as well as to the stomach. Free food were served for all without any limit for a week or so. I enjoyed the "Prasadam" all the days. Most of my time was spent for standing on the various "Qs". It was really a flood of humanity.
