ANANTAPUR: Youth and ‘bala vikas’ students from Maharashtra staged cultural programmes in Sai Kulwanth Hall in Prashanti Nilayam at Puttaparthi in the district on Wednesday as part of the ‘Aashadha Ekadashi’ celebrations by a large number of devotees of Satya Saibaba gathered there from Maharashtra.

Earlier on Tuesday, a vocal recital by well-known singer Hariharan enthralled the devotees of Satya Saibaba and the general public who gathered in Prashanti Nilayam on the occasion of ‘Aashadha Ekadashi’ festival of Marathas at Puttaparthi in the district.

Large gathering

Hariharan rendered ‘ghazals’ and devotional songs in ‘Carnatic’ and ‘hindustani’ styles for about three hours.

A large number of Saibaba devotees from Maharashtra and Marathi speaking people from other areas gathered in Prashanti Nilayam for the last one week.

Saibaba presented silk ‘vasthrams’ to the singer at the end of his recital.

The devotees were on ‘grama seva’ by conducting medical and veterinary health camps in several villages around Puttaparthi for the past one week.
