Because of illusion and confusion we perceive the world as world and not as god. But Gnanis and saints see the world as god only. The apparent illusory images, the eye perceive do not make any impact on the realised one. It is just like a hazy picture to them. They too possess human form but in fact it is like a burnt coir or rope. For the vision, it will look like a coir or rope and in reality it is nothing but ash. Hence saints and gnanis do not feel the pain the body undergoes as in the case of Maharishi Ramana who underwent surgery without aneasthesia and Swami who started walking on the third or fourth day after the major surgery on his broken hip. He has not used any of the miraculous powers to do away with the pain but the Pain was there and he has chosen conveniently to IGNORE it. When Swami fell down during a sports meet in his car turned chariot, he sustained grevious injuries. Nearly two or three turkey towels were drenched in Swami's blood. But no body knew the reason for Swami's visit to the bathroom. To hide the injury from marring the sports days, he has chosen to hide it. Only when Swami has mentioned it to one of his devotee in the interview room, it came to the light of the day. Why does Swami undergoes such grevious hurt and suffering? Swami himself has clarified, "This body is not ME. Hence the sufferings underwent by the body do not affect me the least. Such was his complete indifference to the form. We must learn a lesson from the above and stay disconnected from the body mind complex. Sairam.
