We are surrounded by 'Materialism'. Though we may persue noble ideals, the atmosphere of materialism pollute our thoughts also. Hence we must be very alert to the outer influences in our life. Swami has once said, a pot of water kept in open place for a few days will get evaporated whereas if it is kept immersed in a bigger container full of water, the water in the pot will never get dimnished. Likewise, Satsang(the company of devoted people) protect us from bad worldly influences to a great extent. We take bath every day to clean our outer body. We chant mantras and slokas to cleanse our inner realm. Even in spirituality, Swami has prescribed several activities. As you all might have noticed a day's life in Prasanthi Nilayam, it starts with Omkar, Suprapadam, Nagarasankeerthan, Bhajan etc. You have lectures by eminent people daily. You may read books in Library. There are several places of intrest to visit in and around Nilayam. Why? If you start doing the same thing continuously, it will become monotonous. Hence there is change in the schedule for various spiritual activities. Swami has said, "Change of work is rest". Hence we will never get the feeling of boredom in day to day activities. Even in our daily life, we do so many cores but switches over to other activities when one work become dull. Hence practice spiritual sadhana with changes in between so that you will never develop disinterest in what you are doing. If we start consuming same food every day we would rather abstain from such preperations. Hence there are varieties in vegetables, and other preperations to make eating a pleasure. Likewise we must also develop spiritual hunger and satisfy the same with different kinds of sadhanas. Sairam.
