CHAPTER

63 Duty, My child, is simply the rein that keeps man on the right path, always. Without duty, life has no meaning - man has no role - and the mind has no goal. Duty is the direction of love - the map of sacrifice - the only guide to reaching God. Hence, each one must take the responsibilities that duty holds with utmost seriousness. Duty must be accepted by its doer, wholeheartedly. One must not complain of being given such golden work. Remember, O child of God, that devotion, dedication and discipline arise only in those that make their duty bigger than their very own needs. Those that tread this path with love and persistence will surely lead others with their

brilliance and inspiration! What is duty? Duty is the work that one must do to abide with the role he plays. Adhering only to the title, without the love for playing the given role, makes duty only an irony - only a joke! For example, if the one that is called "the Mother" has no sense of selfless love - has no inspiration to sacrifice for her own little ones - if she is negligent in nurturing their needs, then she holds only the title - a title that has no significance - no meaning! Every role will bring before the eye the perfect vision of the work that is associated with it. For, when one simply utters the word "mother", one sees before him compassion, selflessness, sacrifice, pure love, loyalty and peace. When one simply says, "She is my mother", one instantly knows that it is she that has come to love and protect him until her very last

breath. Life, My child, is directly associated with time, for its outcome depends upon the way one spent his time. Time that is well spent gives life its deserving fullness. Work is worship - but the work must be beneficial to the self. The work undertaken must be such that it awakens the inner strengths with ease and spontaneity. Hence, for each work one undertakes, one has to discriminate if the work will lead one's life time towards God. Such situations become confusing, for the one that has yet not found the strength to discriminate, rightly, will not know if the work is the chosen one, or if it is simply his own desire. But duty does not bring such confusion - for its work is outlined simply and clearly. A "wife" is a life-partner, that devotes her time to her husband's needs. Her role is to be the contentment of her husband. Hence, duty, My child, needs no analysis - no

thinking. It is simply an act in which one fulfills the work with his love for it. Love and duty go hand in hand, in fact, it is love that guides the chosen work. Duty that is performed without love becomes a "chore", and such an attitude will fail to meet with the joy that is associated with the chosen task. Dive in completely - let duty become the source of worship - let duty become the teacher of life - let duty become the reason to live - let duty become the strength to awaken the inner God. Those that are confused in what their duty lies in, have simply not undertaken the task with complete acceptance. For the one that is eager to accept the role will be guided with the work that comes with it. If the intent is pure - if the heart is simple and full of love, then the inner guidance to play the perfect role comes easily. Just like duty is led by love - it is motivated by purity. A

pure heart will only do his very best, and his very best is the completion of what he undertakes. Those that put limitations on their duty have yet to find love for it. Until you consider duty to be work, until then, you, My child, will be robbed from the true joys that duty holds. Duty must be considered as a part of life's needs - just like one has to breath to live - eat food to live - drink to live - one must also find the need to develop love and find the inner joy to perform his work with perfection. Your first duty lies to God. That does not mean that one leaves his loved ones who depend upon him to perform ritualistic acts of worship and prayer. No! That, My child, is not a prayer but a sin! Duty to God means that in whatever you do, make God - His strengths - His love - His peace - the ideal in your work. Dedicate the work to please Him, and it will touch the one

that you aspire to lead. Perform work with complete surrender - complete faith in His might, and the work will be rewarded with the confidence of the self. Such work will never carry the burden of worry, fear or any anxiety, for the work that holds love and purity will be rescued by the Lord, always! Until the breath remains - the call of duty will be linked to the life. Life, without duty, is like life without love - without God! Hence, treasure your chosen work, for it makes time shorter - life stronger - and you content! Saying The blind find the true vision - the dumb begin to speak with the silence of the inner truth - the deaf begin to hear the pleading cry of the Self - the disease of being small hearted and small minded begins to heal - Yes! Simply by the touch of the

Almighty Hand! The strength of this Mighty Power is immeasurable! For He is not only the ruler of all existence - but is also the Maker - the Breaker - the Lover - the Liver - the Prompter - the Doer - the Fear and the Will. There is nothing that can exist without His life - His holy breath! The link to life is His love - that link can never be broken for such is the nature of this permanence. Even the biggest evil has no power to break this bond between God and His child. The curtain of illusion can bring the misery of doubt and fear - but it certainly cannot, ever, make the unreal - real! The mind can blur your vision to the divine picture - but remember, even in the blurriest of visions, one will be able to see the smile of compassion and forgiveness of the Divine Form before him. Hence, have hope, My child - Nothing is over, yet. It is over, only when you say "No! No! No!" Believe that in the fight, is the

freedom to all your pains. Think with clarity

See only with purity

Feel your way with the touch of simple - sweet love

And you will find

That the kingdom of God

Is only at the doorstep

Of your very own home!

The closeness to God comes

Not by prayer, nor worship,

Not by building a temple - nor by taking a pilgrimage

It reveals to the one

That is ready to recognize, realize and repent

For his own so called "wrongs"

For one must burn in his own sins, first

One must grind the temptation of his every impulse

One must be able to face the pain of his change

One must be able to fight the devil that he carries

Yes! He, My child, must find the inner strength,

First, to face the Lord's purposeful neglect of him

Then to graciously receive the shower of the Glorious attention

Yes! First patience - then humility - then service

And after being the faithful servant,

Comes the time to become the Master, Himself!

Such a Master to Selfless Service

Will live his life with the golden heart

That beats with the melody

Of the Lord's love!

Yes! The true golden heart

That will give him the restful life

That never sleeps

For his vision of the right

Is his comfort - his security - his knowledge and his

Awareness in existing with the Holy truth of God!Source : LIVING IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD (Volume II/Part I)
