Guest guest
Dear Shantnuji, Some numbers are symbolic representation of reality and number five in one such. We have panchakosha, panchabhuta, panchamakara, panchayajna, panchagavya, panchagni, panchanga(vara, tithi, nakshatra, karana, yoga) and in fact Shiva is represented as panchaanana, the five faced one, representing the five aspect of created universe related to five elements. Guest guest
Thanks Shantnuji. I thought translation and description would be lengthy and besides, either they are known or may not be interested in. Panchakosha/five sheaths or coverings or coatings or layers that cover the Self and because of them and our identification with them we do not experience the Self. The koshas are: the outermost being annamaya kosha/food based covering, that is the body. Second, next to body and within it is the pranamayakosha/breath covering, the prana - this again is five in number like prana/respiration in the nose, apana/downwards in the organs of excretion and generation, vyana/in the whole body supplying energy for the hard work, udana/in the throat with its movement poised upwards(it helps the individual soul leave the body at the time of death) and samana/in the central region of the body, responsible for digestion/assimilation of food. The third innermost layer is manomayakosha/mental sheath involved in mind and its activities such as cognition, will and doubts. Fourth is the vijnanamayakosha/Intellect sheath, a decision making and discriminating apparatus and finally the fifth and the innermost layer next to Self is the anandamayakosha/Bliss sheath, this is the name given to ajnana/ignorance!, the happiness enjoyed during deep sleep is due to it. Panchabhutas are the five elements of Nature - earth, water, fire, air and space. Panchamahayajnas are devayajna/sacrifice to gods, pitruyajna/sacrifice to forefathers, rishiyajna/sacrifice to sages, narayajnayajna/sacrifice or feeding human beings and bhutayajna/feeding animals. Panchagavya are the five products derived from the cow: milk, curds, ghee, urine and dung. It is said to have powers to burn up all sins if consumed with chanting mantras. Panchagni/five fires, fire has several parts such as fire, fuel, smoke, blazing tongues, embers and sparks. Five fires are dyuloka/sky, parjanya/rain, loka/this world, purusha/man and yosha/women - they are compared to the parts of fire! Shantnu Sir, I hope it will suffice for now. Regards Thimmappa. Guest guest
Wonderfull Thimmappaji. It was really nice to hear it from you. Please do not feel we are not interested in what you know. I can also understand your point of view as some might not be interested because they might know what it is. I was little afraid to ask question because i felt will people really answer my question. Because sometimes my question might be wrong. In here shantuji cleared out my question when i asked about Panchakshari Japa. I understand it only after reading your answers after shantuji wrote it. Please forgive me if i hurt you or anything I wrong here. At the same time i do request you to explain it freely. Thank you Thimmappaji and Shantuji. Sarvamaatha. As you see, many people are not aware of these things, & are actually interested. Regarding Panchkosa, do you mind explaning a bit more: Does each Kosha has its own Sadhna, do you have to go step by step for Moskha(eg, first control Annamaya Kosha, then Pranamaya etc), or can we directly jump to the highest state? love, Shantnu
