The Gita is an obvious answer, so we will leave that. Which other

books did you read that inspired you, & what did you find good about them?

Other then Gita and Upnishada some of the most inspiring books rather

of all the most inspiring book I found is 'The Gospel of Sri

Ramakrishna'. The life and spiritual experience of a giant of his

time.... his teachings... simplicity of explaining all the most

diffecult to understand scripture ... all this is marvelous. Next in

the same line is again by the great saint produced by Sri Ramakrishna,

Swami Vivekananda's 'The Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda'. This is

the book that reflects the real HInduism in a way people can

understand. Of course, reading Complete Works need some knowledge in

scripture without which understanding is diffecult. But the Gospel is

so simple, and digestable like the simpliciy of this Great Saint Sri

Ramakrishna

I cant figure out a single book... but i must say on my spiritual

journey, a stop came and one book sent by god, to start my journey

further....it is like i changed 7 buses to reach here... how can i say

which bus was best...as all helped me in reaching my destination.

However i must say Rajayoga by Vivekanada, books of Osho, Mantra and

meditation by swami Vishnu Devananda and the ultimate book of my

journey till now is synthesis of yoga by Shri Aurobindo

Synthesis of Yoga, answered all my questions... gave me a chance

to see where i am on the journey and where i have to go and how and

when.... i have read this book 3/4 times and each times it has

refreshed my wisdom

One book I really liked was " Autobiography of a Yogi " by Yogananda.

Yogananda describes his miracalous life, how his undying faith in God

helped him since childhood, when his relatives & friends tried to

dissuade him path of spirituality.

The chapter " Ressurection of Sri Yukteshwar " gives one of the best

descriptions of the astral world- by Yoganandas Guru, who after death

was appointed a guru to the Devas.

It is a book to be read again & again.

Another really good book is Tripura Rahasya- which is the proper

Adwait Vedant teaching for shaktas. In it, a Princess teaches her

husband & the whole kingdom Yoga.

It solved many misconceptions of vedant. When her husband runs to the

jungle, & refuses to come back to city saying he cant live without

bliss of meditation, the Devi replies " What sort of Samadhi is this,

that it vanishes with opening of eyes? How can the sense organ of

sight destroy the state of bliss is Samadhi? The state of Samdahi is

beyond closing of eyes, ears & runnning to forest! " .

The most inspiring book to me...well...is the Epic Poem of Sri

Aurobindo, " Savitri. " In it is a source of unparalelled wisdom and a

revelation of the stages of life and the new era to come. Even the

reading/reciting of it is considered a yoga. Please, I ask all of you

to at least read an excerpt sometime. It surely surpasses many other

works. Even The Mother states that " Savitri is a Mantra for the

transformation of the world "

Other books are the Upanishads, " The Life Divine, " and " Synthesis of

Yoga, " by Sri Aurobindo.

One of the most inspiring book I read is the Durga Saptashati- it is a

complete book, teaching not only theory, but also practical

meditations & occult Tantric techniques, which is very rare as most

books only teach one of these 3 at a time.

The best translation in English is one by Swami Satyananda

Saraswati(called Candi Path). He gives the hidden meaning of the names

of demons.

What most people dont is that only the demons Durga kills are actually

-ve thoughts, while the Devas are the +ve thoughts. All the demons

represent some -ve quality- like Mahisasur is the Great Ego,

Madhu-Kaitab are Too much-Too Little(people who enjoy too much, or

punish their body too much are Madhu-Kaitab demons- these 2 demons

Durga destroys 1st, meaning 1st we need balance in our life).

In the Saptashati, the Gods(or our positive energies & thoughts) lose

to the demons, which shows that, in the short term, -ve forces are

much stronger. Only by surrendering to the Godess within, can we hope

to fight all these negative tendencies.

The Durga Saptashati is a wonderful book, as it not only tell you

about these -ve energy demns, but gives you practical methods to fight

them.

" Ayurveda & Yoga " , also " Tantric Yoga " , both by Dr David Frawley are

the best books I read. They are very short(only about a 100 pages) but

in those 100 pages I found more info than many so called thick

" Academic " books.

Frawley solves the great mystery of the link between Yoga, Vedas(or

Vedant) & Tantras in these 2 books. While most people say these paths

are separate & exclusive, Frawley beatufilly shows how they merge with

each other & complement with each other.

I understood complex things like the 5 bodies, chakras, Nadis,

different types of Pran, what the Tantric Goddesses mean esoterically

only after I read Dr Frawleys work, even though I had read a dozen

books before on these topics.

For me I like A POWER OF NOW by Eckhart tolle.

It tells the path of enlightment in simple ways(which

i can understand). Also it gives a strange peace

feeling emanating inside when i read the book. Same

with Eckhart tolles other books. STILLNESS SPEAKS, A

NEW EARTH.

Regards

Balaji

I am currently reading THE POWER OF NOW for the second time. Its a

wonderful book that just hits the nail on the head for taking you

into that peaceful place where there are no thoughts. I also enjoyed

PRACTISING THE POWER OF NOW. In both books you are encouraged to read

some & then put the book to one side whilst you 'do' what you have

just been reading about. Its very easy to follow & a pleasure to read.

With love, blessings & good wishes to all.
