Dear devotees of SHREERAAM, The most enchanting part of the Holy epic

RAAMAAYAN is , if 100 people read it, there can be 100 interpretations.

Dasha ratha (king with ten chariots) was interpreted as one who successfully

controlled 10 senses 5 outside(baahya) and 5 inside (antarendriyas). Thus

Shreeraam`s venerated father had full control over himself and his subjects. He

was originally childless and so married 3 consorts, Kousalya,Sumithra and

Kaikeyi. But Puthrakaamesti blessed him with four matchless sons.

Raavan literally means a man with rava (loud voice). High decibel sound also

gave him the name Dasakantha (10 throated). If there were 10 throats there must

have been 10 heads unrelated to intelligence and, wisdom . Heads (

thoughts, desires, emotions etc) could not be controlled and subjugated by Raavana

unlike Dasharatha.

Shoorpanakha mistakenly thought that if Dasarath could have three consorts

,his Noble Son Shreeraam also could have more than one consort and offered

herself as the second. She paid for this Divine misunderstanding, but Raavan

took revenge. Raavan also paid the price.

Thus Raavan`s 10 heads were his uncontrolled terrestrial desires . like w,w.,w

and several others..

Thanks dr jiragavarapu,

I wrote another post on Ravan's 10 heads, which got deleted

accidentally.

The meaning of 10 heads may perhaps be understood by Ego and

ahankaar ( " I " & " i " ). Ego is pure form of Tamoguna and does not

take part in the body actions. Its seat is said to be in

Heart...some say it is in muladhara.

Mind creates another supreflous ego, can be called

ahankaar...which takes the body and senses as his own tools. this

ahankaar keeps a record of our identity, our environments and gross

memories. This ahankaar is the center of our pride, our complexes

and our miseries and joys. This ahankar is destroyed at the time of

death, and a new supreflous ahankar is manifested by our mind in the

new body.

so everytime, Ravan tried to kill his Ego, to get merged into the

supreme, Shiva gave him powers which contributed to his ego

(Ahankaar)... so 10 times he tried and each time he was bestowed

with more powers and in turn more ahankaar. This was perhaps due to

some karmic debt or perhaps he was not yet fit for the final merging

into Shiva.

so 10 heads may be 10 superflous ahankaars of Ravan, made by his

mind on getting siddhis and powers. Rama tried to destroy those

ahankaars, and finally cut the connection between his ego (aham) and

EGO (Ahankar) through the Manipur chakra and Ravan got liberation.

There is no doubt that Ravan was very wise, brave and siddha.

The false pride made him a demon, whereas he was a Brahmin.... his

book Ravan Samhita is a wonderful book on Tantra... i am still

looking for it...although i have read some excerpts from this book

He kidnapped sita to take revenge of insult of his sister shrupnakha

by Rama and Laxman, and it is very obvious. His character was so

high that he did not rape Sita,... just tried to allure her for

marriage...the most gentleman's way.

There are great Truths hidden behind these stories and perhaps

Shanracer wrote in his previous posts the esoteric meaning of

Ramayana.

with love
